"Robert Arthur Meesig
AMHERST - Robert Arthur Meesig, 83 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born April 28, 1929 in Lorain. Robert was a lifetime resident of Amherst and graduated from Amherst High School in the class of 1947. He continued his education graduating from Baldwin Wallace College.
Robert proudly served as an air traffic controller in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. While serving in Japan he received the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was employed as a computer program at TRW formerly Nelson Stud Welding, before taking an early retirement to care for his wife. Robert was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post #1662, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #1442 both of Amherst. Robert was a former member of the Amherst School Board for many years and served on the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. His hobbies included gardening, golf and working on cars.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years Roberta Meesig (nee: Diedrick); daughters Deborah Meesig, M.D., J.D. of Columbus; Marla Sas and her husband Edward of Amherst, Joanne Downs and her husband David of Ham Lake, MN, Amanda Ferry, M.D. and her husband William, Esq. of Bay Village; ten grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Paul and Helen Meesig (nee: Nugent).
Friends may call Friday, February 1, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing Prayers will be held Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 9:30 at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Michael Denk, pastor will officiate. Full Military Honors will be performed by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Animal Protective League; 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035.

"Aaron Michael Cobb, 26 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Friday, April 27, 2012.
He was born January 6, 1986 in Grand Junction, Colorado. Aaron was a lifetime resident of Amherst. He was employed at Oberlin Ultimate Landscaping. Aaron loved being outdoors, whether it be fishing at the local ponds, playing golf or working outside. He loved being with family and friends.
Survivors include his son James P'Simer of Amherst; his parents Michael and Kim Cobb (nee: Offineer) of Amherst; brothers Michael Cobb, Jr. and David Jones; sisters Candi Cobb (Dee) all of Lorain; and Julie Cobb (Brandon) of Elyria; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A reception for family and friends will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 1-5 pm at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1662; 165 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst.

"Albert Roemer Tyson, 87 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011, at Lake Point Health Care in Lorain following a on going battle with cancer.
He was born September 7, 1923, in Lorain, Ohio. Albert was raised in Amherst and graduated from Amherst High School in the class of 1941. He had lived in Lorain and Cleveland before moving to Vermilion where he had made his home since 1984.
Albert was employed at Thew Shovel in Lorain and at Merika and Company for over twenty years before retiring as a bookkeeper. He was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion where he served as a Eucharist minister to the shut-ins, a reader at mass and enjoyed the time he spent caring for the church grounds. Albert volunteered at the Lorain Catholic Charity Society. He enjoyed spending time with his friends attending opera's. His hobbies included music and gardening. Albert had an amazing memory and was able to recall sections of Shakespeare that he had learned as a young man.
Survivors include his nephews Edward Long, M.D. And his wife Linda of Cincinnati, Ohio, James Long of Lorain and his niece Holly J. Long and her husband Richard Dvorscak of Lorain; twelve great nieces and nephews and fourteen great great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his companion of fifty-six years Robert W. Richards in 2006; his niece Linda Lee Roark in 1995; his sister Janice E. Long in 1994; and by his father Herman Tyson in 1953; his mother Alma M. Tyson -Breckenridge (nee: Roemer) in 1981; and by his step father Elmer Breckenridge in 1975.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church; 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion.
Graveside Services was held privately by the family Thursday, July 28, 2011, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Vermilion. The Rev. Fr. Ron Brickner, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion, will officiate.

"Alberta F. Eddy (nee Jackson), 84, of Amherst, died peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at her home, following a prolonged illness.
She was born March 27, 1928, in Elyria. She was a lifetime resident of Amherst.
Alberta and her husband, Bennie enjoyed their role as snowbirds as they spent their winters in Leesburg, Fla.
Alberta was a talented and committed homemaker. She served her community for many years as an employee of the Lorain County Board of Elections.
She was a member of Old Stone United Methodist Church in Amherst.
Alberta loved gardening, canning, sewing, and floral arranging with flowers that she and her husband grew. As an expression of her artistic nature she loved to draw greeting and holiday cards as well as bookmarks for family and friends.
Her greatest joy was the family gatherings with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Darlene K. Eddy Gilgenbach of Wakeman and Carol J. May of Huntington Beach, Calif.; grandchildren Matthew and Jori Gilgenbach; great-grandchildren Jasmine and Christian; and her brother, William Farrell of Sandusky.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Bennie L. Eddy on March 22, 2011; daughter, Diane R. Squires on Aug. 20, 2012; granddaughter, Bethany R. Squires; brother, James Jackson; sisters Helen Deidrick and Alice Ferkel; and parents, Ellsworth A. Jackson and Mary Ruth Farrell (nee Stong).
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 4 with the Rev. Daniel Reinke of Old Stone United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial was at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

"AMHERST TOWNSHIP - Alexander Shane 'Arod' Rodriguez, 20, of Amherst Township, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in His infinite wisdom, rescued Alexander from this world and took him home to be with Him. Alex passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, November 8, 2013. Words cannot say how much he will be missed by his family and friends.
Alex was born on January 26, 1993 in Elyria. He was a 2011 graduate of Marion L Steele High School in Amherst. He played Varsity Football in High School and enjoyed working out and keeping physically fit. His greatest joy came from his football team in his senior year and spending time with his family. Alex was employed at Laser Craft in North Ridgeville and he attended Liberty Baptist Church in Elyria.
Alex is survived by his parents; John Rodriguez of Puerto Rico and Skippy King of Amherst Township. Maternal grandparents; Alfred and Audrey Jean Tyree of Amherst Township and Emory and Sarah King of Brighton Township. Paternal grandparents; Juan and Santa Rodriguez. Aunt; Tammy King of Jacksonville, Florida. Uncles; Michael King of Amherst Township, Brian King of Lorain, Andrew King of Brighton Township, Fernando Rodriguez of Columbus and James Rodriguez of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his beloved Step-Grandfather, Timothy F. Schmauch.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at 11:00 a.m. at Wyers Funeral Chapel 2900 North Ridge Rd. Sheffield Township. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery, Amherst. The Rev. Rick Young pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Elyria will officiate.

"Alice Jean Stewart, 63, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, February 25, 2012, following a 10 year battle with cancer. Alice was born May 29, 1948 to the late Allen and Dorothy Mizer, living in Amherst since early childhood.
A graduate of M.L. Steele High School in 1966, she graduated with a teaching certificate from Baldwin-Wallace College. Alice taught Spanish and French at Steele High School in Amherst, until her retirement. She served as advisor to the yearbook and ski club for many years. Alice found great pleasure in gardening, serving as President to the Amherst Garden Club in 2010-11. She championed hiking and traveling with her husband, Ray, especially in mountains and throughout Mesoamerica.
An avid environmentalist, Alice belonged to the Sierra Club, leading service trips in the Rockies and the Sierras. Locally, Alice volunteered for the LC Metroparks, the Oasis Animal Shelter, and the friendship APL.
A hopeless dog addict, she rescued all her pets. She was also a gifted musician, playing piano, guitar, saxophone and, especially as vocalist. In her youth, Alice was a Girl Scout, attending the national roundup in Idaho and later served as a Girl Scout leader. She was a fitness leader, teaching aerobics and backpacking
at LCCC. She enjoyed skiing, both down-hill and cross-country.
She is survived by her husband, Ray; son, Jeremy; daughter, Melanie; and many beautiful grandchildren.
There are no funeral arrangements or services. We will have an open house at home Saturday, April 14, 2012.

""OBERLIN â€” Alma May Wellman, 96, passed away June 13, 2010 at her home.
She was born on November 19, 1913 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She graduated from Conneaut High in 1932 and from Oberlin College Conservatory with a B.A. in Music in 1936 and received her Masters in Music in the late 1950s. She worked as a music teacher in schools for 10 years in Conneaut and 25 years in Amherst as a music teacher. After retiring, she was a graduate of Elyriaâ€™s cosmetology school, where she owned and operated Mâ€™ladyâ€™s Hair Fashions in Elyria working as a beautician. Alma was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, member and past president of Oberlin Book Club, and she was a member of First Baptist Church of Oberlin, now Peave Comm. Church.
She enjoyed traveling, reading, craftwork and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter Shirley Ann (David) South of Cincinnati, 2 Grandchildren and niece Carole (John Howard) Holl of Elyria.
She is preceded in death by her husband Gilbert W. Wellman, her mother Bertha M. Blystone, father Charles W. Talling and sisters Bonnie Ruth Turner and Ardis Carmichael.
Visitation is Thursday, June 17, from 10 am until time of services at 11 am. Funeral will be 11 am on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Cowling Funeral Home Inc., Oberlin, OH. Rev. Mary Hammond of Peave Community church will provide services. Interment at Westwood Cemetery.

She was a 1979 graduate of Marion L. Steele High School and attended the University of Toledo, Class of 1983, majoring in music. Amy was office manager at the Ronald E. Kopco Company, Lorain, from 1982-1995. In 1995, she accepted the office manager position at George's Roofing, Elyria, where she worked until her medical retirement in 2005. For sixteen years, she assisted the Vocal Music Department of Marion L. Steele High School with their annual spring pops show. Amy was proficient at counted cross stitch, enjoyed working puzzles, and loved jazz music.
Survivors include her mother, Grace C. of Vermilion and formerly of Amherst, four sisters; Linda Kokinda and Pamela Derrick, both of Amherst; Stephanie Shaffer of Lorain, Cindy Fitzpatrick of Sheffield Village; five brothers; Stephen of South Carolina, Clifford of Lorain, Michael of Florida, Douglas of Chicago, Randy of Amherst, many nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and great nephews.
There will be no visitation or service and burial will be private. Arrangements provided by the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, Amherst and Cromco Services, Elyria.

"AMHERST - Amelia Anne Sliman, 82 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Mercy Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
She was born June 12, 1929 in South Amherst. Amelia graduated from Amherst High School in the class of 1947 and had made her home in the Amherst area her whole life. Amelia was a member of Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church in South Amherst. She loved to write letters and notes to her friends and family.
Amelia leaves to cherish her memory her sisters Mary Sliman of Amherst and Anne Stines of Falls Church, Virginia; niece Judy Stines of Blufton, South Carolina and nephew Ralph (Lisa) Stines of Myersville, Maryland; great niece Nichole Stines and great nephew Jack Stines; as well as many cousins and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her brother Joseph Sliman at infancy; sister Elizabeth Sliman in 2002; and by her parents Abraham and Ngmey Sliman (nee: Joseph).

"AMHERST â€” Andrew J. Sadowski, 41, of Amherst, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at his residence.
Andy was born August 24, 1969 in Oberlin, to the late Richard J. Sadowski and Jane K. (nee Schriner) Sadowski. Andy was a 1987 graduate of Marion L. Steele High School and Lorain County Joint Vocation School where he majored in small engine repair. He attended Lorain County Community College for two years following high school. Andy worked several years as an auto reconditioner and detailer.
He enjoyed golfing, motorcycling, and the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns.
Survivors include his mother Jane K. Sadowski of Amherst, his sister Beth and her husband Charles Yuhasz of Amherst, two nephews Nicholas and Benjamin Yuhasz, and a neice Christine Yuhasz.
Andyâ€™s father, Richard J. Sadowski, preceded him in death in 1998.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Crown Hill Cemetery, Amherst. Pastor Mark Pemberton of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Amherst, will officiate."

"Andrew J. Weaver, 27 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at his home.
He was born January 31, 1985 in Lorain, Ohio. Andrew had made his home in Amherst for most of his life and graduated from Marion L. Steele High School in the class of 2003.
He was previously employed as a flight line attendant at Johnston Aviation Lorain County Airport. Andrew was a wonderful husband to his wife Lindsey and father to their two sons Charlie and Ben.
His hobbies included collecting vinyl albums, and cooking. Andrew loved being outdoors, fishing and going for walks.
Survivors include his wife of one year Lindsey Weaver nee: Eberhardt; his sons Charles Andrew and Benjamin Henry Weaver both at home; his father Timothy J. Weaver and his wife Randi of Lorain; his mother Melva Sherwood and her husband Scott of Vermilion; his brother Aaron Weaver of Vermilion; his grandfather Joseph Bentley of Amherst and many aunts and uncles.

"Anthony 'Tony' S. Meyers, age 37 and a life resident of Amherst, died Sunday, August 26, 2012 at his residence.
Tony was born in Lorain, August 6, 1975 to Keith H. and Delores M. (nee Syrowski) Meyers. He was a 1994 graduate of Marion L. Steele High School. Tony was a service manager for several years at various auto dealerships in Lorain County.
In the past year, he moved to the sales department at Spitzer Auto World, Amherst. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Tony was a loving husband and a wonderful father who adored his children.
Surviving is his wife of 14 years Gina M. (nee Monaco), his cherished children Leah and Alexis, two sisters, Ann (Larry) Foglyano, of Amherst and Steph (Joe) Waryu, of Amherst, two brothers, Greg, of Amherst and Jeff (Carol), of Amherst, nieces and nephews, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Nick and Norma Monaco, of Amherst.
Family will receive friends at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst, Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Closing prayers Thursday 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst. "AMHERST â€” Audrey M. Stec, age 67 years and a lifelong resident of Amherst, died Monday, October 5, 2009 at Community Health Partners, Lorain.
Audrey was born March 15, 1942 to Ludwig and Susan Gambish Stec of Amherst. She was a 1960 graduate of Marion L. Steele High School, Amherst, and earned a bachelor degree in education from Kent State University followed by a master degree in library science from the University of Colorado. Audrey was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst. She was a homemaker who loved to read and enjoyed travelling.
In addition to her parents, Audrey is survived by her brother Dennis Stec of Washington, Michigan and cousins in the Lorain County area.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst. Rev. Lawrence N. Martello, pastor, will officiate. Private family interment in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain."

"AMHERST - Barry Richard Shay, 65 years of age, and a lifelong resident of Amherst, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the Wade Park VA Hospice in Cleveland.
He was born on November 12, 1945 in Lorain. He was the son of James and Clara Shay (nee: Betka) who preceded Barry in death in 1990 and in 2001.
After graduation in 1963 from the Amherst Marion L. Steele High School, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corp. He served his country faithfully and bravely from February, 1964 to January, 1968 and obtained the rank of Corporal. During that period, he served a tour of duty in Vietnam. He attended Palomar Community College in Oceaside, California and Lorain Community College in Elyria. He worked at both Harshaw Chemical and Crown Steel. Barry was interested in sports, including baseball, football and basketball. Barry left his three beloved cats behind.
Barry will be loving missed by his siblings which include his brothers Keith Shay of Amherst, and Gregory (Brenda) Shay of Vermilion; sisters Kathleen (Albert) Weber of San Diego, California, and Maureen (Ron) Komlosi of Amherst. He also left behind nine nieces, five nephews, and fourteen great nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick F. Shay at age 71 of Portage, Indiana on July 12, 2011; and his nephew Gregory M. Shay at age 18 of Amherst on October 23, 1998.

"AMHERST - Bonita "Bonnie" Marie Csubak (nee Huffman), age 40 and a resident of Amherst, passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 12, 2010.
Bonnie was born in Amherst, August 6, 1970 to William F. and the late Betty K. (nee Deremiah) Huffman. In her childhood Bonnie was an accomplished gymnast. She was a 1988 graduate of Marion L. Steele High School. Bonnie was a member of the school's marching band during all four years of high school, and one of the achievements of the band was being invited to march and play at Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida.
After graduating high school, Bonnie attended college and graduated in 1996 from Akron University with two bachelor degrees, Biology and Sports Medicine. For a time, Bonnie was a cheerleader advisor and a softball coach at Admiral King High School.
She began her teaching career in 2002 at Clearview High School, where she taught biology and general science. Bonnie was also a softball coach for Clearview. She taught at Clearview High School until 2008.
She enjoyed bowling, swimming, biking, and tennis. During the summer months, Bonnie volunteered for the Amherst Athletic Association. On the association's behalf, she coached girls softball, umpired softball games, was a league director, and ran the concession stand at the junior high.

Huffman of Amherst; two sisters, Beth Nagy of Brunswick and Barb (husband Brian) Bowman of Amherst; paternal grandmother Betty Huffman of Amherst; three uncles, Art (wife Debbie) Deremiah of Amherst, Cal (wife Judy) Huffman of Higginsport, Doug (wife Mary) Huffman of Ripley; mother-in-law and father-in-law Bonnie and Frank Csubak of Lorain; brother-in-law Kevin Csubak of Lorain; three sister-in-laws; Liane (husband Robert) Ripley of Grafton, Julie (husband Matt) Blust of Delaware, Diane (husband Walt) Winchell of Lorain; nieces Jena and Kaylee Nagy, Jessica Bowman, Savanah Blust; and nephews Dylan and Josh Winchell.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her mother Betty Kay (nee Deremiah) Huffman, who passed away December 8, 2004; infant twin sisters (1971); paternal grandfather William A. Huffman (1994); and maternal grandparents Blain (1984) and Helen (2003) Deremiah.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, 3 - 5 & 6 - 8 p.m., at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Reinke of Park Avenue United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
Memorials in Bonnie's honor may be made to the Betty K. Huffman Memorial Scholarship Fund at any branch of Lorain National Bank.

"Brian Joseph Kokinda, 68, and a resident of Amherst, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 at his home following a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 16, 1944 in Lorain. Brian was raised in the Lorain and Amherst area and graduated from Amherst High School in the class of 1962.
He had lived in Mississippi for 15 years before moving back to Amherst in 2002 where he lived until his death.
Brian proudly served in the United States Navy. He was employed at Zeon Chemical in Mississippi for 27 years before retiring in 2001 as a foreman. Brian loved working on the computer. He enjoyed listening to all types of music. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years Linda Christine Kokinda (nee Piar); his sons and their wives Tony and Tina Fuhrman of Vermilion, and Tim and Jenny Fuhrman of Amherst, his daughters Marcy Kokinda of Oregon, Michelle Riggs of Wakeman, Lisa Kokinda of Mississippi, and Rebecca McCollough and her husband Mark of Amherst; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister Susan; and his parents Joseph and Adeline Kokinda (nee Rhon).
Services were held privately by the family.
Hempel Funeral Home of Amherst handled arrangements.

"Bruce Allen Lyle, born September 28, 1952, in Oberlin, Ohio, died on January 11, 2012.
A 1971 graduate of Marion L. Steel High School, he served 7 years in the US Navy as a nuclear electrician on the USS Stinson out of Charleston, SC. He graduated in 1983 from Bowling Green State University with a degree in computer science.
He had lived in Boston, MA, and Pittsburgh, PA, before settling again in northeast Ohio. A gifted artist, voracious reader and avid science fiction fan, he also wrote two novels.
He leaves behind his beloved mother, Doris (nee Vermillion); sisters, Elizabeth Brown (James), Suzanne Simpson (Michael), Melissa Lyle (David), and Sam Lyle-Medwid (Scott); nephews, J. Lyle Brown and Ryan Simpson, and nieces Minga Brown, Sophia Simpson (Ryan Reichart), Adrianna Prayzer (Jacob), Karen and Gena Reynolds, and Clara and Glenna Medwid.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard E. ("Gene") Lyle, in 2011.
Private inurnment with Military Honors will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio.

Carol Ann Webster (nee Campbell), 81, a resident of Brownhelm Township, was called home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Kingston of Vermilion, following a lengthy illness.
She was born September 10, 1930 in Lorain, Ohio. Carol was raised in Lorain and Amherst and graduated from Central High School of Amherst in the class of 1948. She had made her home in Brownhelm Township for the last 39 years.
She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Free Church and former member of Faith Baptist Church of Amherst and Broadway Baptist Church of Lorain, where she and her husband were married. She was a charter member of the Brownhelm Historical Society and a life member of the Community Health Partners Auxiliary.
Her hobbies included reading and decorating her home with the antiques that she had enjoyed collecting over the years. Carol’s primary focus in life was that of being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother; relishing each opportunity to spend time with her family.
Carol leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 61 years, Sheldon “Shoney” D. Webster; sons, Greg A. Webster and his wife Sue of El Cajon, California, Kevin B. Webster and his wife Gail of Cincinnati, and Brian K. Webster of Denver, Colorado; eight grandchildren; and one great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edgar “Ed” Campbell; mother, Marian (Campbell) Arnold (nee Bartow); and her step father, James Arnold; daughter-in-law, Donna Webster; and childhood brother, Jerry Campbell.
Friends may call Tuesday, March 13, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 46485 Middle Ridge Rd., Amherst. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church with an opportunity for viewing one hour prior to service. The Dr. Arnold Fleagle, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township. The Hempel Funeral Home of Amherst, is privileged to serve the family of Carol Webster.

"AVON LAKE – Carol Ann Tillotson, age 57, of Avon Lake, OH. After a 6 ½ year battle with Breast Cancer passed at her home with her husband by her side, on Sunday, July 31, 2011 and now rests peacefully in heaven.
Carol was born, Carol Ann Kamody, on February 9, 1954 in Lakewood growing up in Amherst and graduating from Marion Steel High school in 1972. From the very early age of 6 or 7, Carol was encouraged by her mother to play the piano thus becoming a huge part of Carol's life. Studying music at Baldwin Wallace, Bowling Green, Akron universities, Carol majored in Musical Accompaniment. During her professional career, Carol taught private piano lessons, inspiring at times nearly 50 students per year.
Carol's love of her music spread as she enjoyed being very active in community theater: with MGP; Workshop Players; Lorain Community Music Theater and small group, NEOREP. Carol also served as an accompanist for the Vermilion High School choirs and their Soundsations Group.; Oberlin Choristers Touring Choir and taught Kindermusik.
Carol met her love, her best friend and husband Matt, while playing for MGP and together they enjoyed favorite places such as Disney world, Cedar Point and the Cleveland Zoo.
Carol is preceded in death by her father, Edward Kamody, and mother, Lou Kamody.
She is survived by her husband Matt Gould, her son Andy Tillotson, his wife Collin, her brothers Larry and Steve Kamody, their wives Lisa and Colleen, a step-son Matthew and nine nieces and nephews, and one grandson.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at The United Church of Christ, at 32801 Electric Blvd in Avon Lake, OH with a reception immediately following at the church.
