Served in the US Army from March 1968 thru March 1971, Had orders for Viet Nam but due to bad head injury (depressed skull fracture), I was put on non-combative profile and spent my three years in Washington, D.C. at the Industrial College of The Armed Forces.

Following the advice of his old friend and fellow Airborne soldier, Mark Razook , Charlie told the recruiter " I don't to be a Ground pounder ." So he became the best of Military Occupations , A Water Purification Specialist . He served 2 years in Headquarters Company 307th Combat Engineer Battalion , 82nd Abn Div Ft Bragg NC . Charlie went on to serve is final year at Ft Stewart GA attached to the 4th Infantry Division . He was Honorably discharged in 1977 and now resides in San Antonio TXS . Like all Walled Lake Militatary Alumni We thank him for his service . Many from WLC have served bringing Honor to all who remember them .

Passed at age 48. January 7, 2010. Herb graduated from Michigan State University. He attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in United States Army in October of 1986. Herb was an Infantry Officer and was part of the Panama Invasion in 1989. He was honorably discharged from the U.S Army as a Captain. Interment Service with full Military Honors Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.

Photo is of one of my favorite moments. Home from Basic Training and with my Grandmother and Great Grandmother at the now gone house on Pontiac Trail.

We all remember mike for his great sense of humor . In 1972 , Mike joined the Regular United Staes Army . Like other young men from WLC during the Vietnam Era , Mike signed on to he an Airborne Infantry soldier . He serve in the 2/504 Infantry of The 82nd Airborne Division . He was a Combat Rifle man serving as part of an infantry platoon . Mike adapted well to Military life and rose in rank quickly . He got married in 1974 . It is believed that he was Honorably discharged From The 82nd in 1975 . He came home safely . Like others in our Military Alumni . Mike chose to serve in the the 82nd Airborne Division > This Division was on the ground in Afghanistan within 2 days of 9/11 . It is called "The All American " because it has always had troops from all 50 states . Not only walled Lake but Michigan is well represented
in This , the Only Active Paratroop Division in the entire US Military . We can all be proud that so many of our alum have served their country with Honor and Courage .
