Joined in the Navy in 1966. Was sent to Alaska where I bacame a Photographer's Mate. Left the Navy and worked for the San Diego Union-Tribune in 1970 and returned to the Navy in 1971. In 1973 the Navy sent me to Syracuse University to be trained as a Photojournalist. In 1976 I was honored as the Navy's Photojournalist of the Year. Accepted a commission in 1979 as a Photographic Officer. Retired as a Lieutenant Commander in 1991. During my Navy career in lived in Kodiak AK, Republic of the Philippines, San Diego CA, Indianapolis IN, Syracuse NY,
Mountian View CA and Whidbey Island WA.

Served in Europe, the Middle East and U.S. Post Installation at For Lewis, WA, Fort Riley, KS, Fort Knox, KY, Fort Benning, GA, and Fort Leavenworth MO. Held positions as Tank Company Commander, Battalion S3 & Executive Officer, Observer Controller at Hohenfels Army Training Center Germany, Armor Office Advanced Course Small Group Instructor, and OPSO for 3rd Army.

Specialized in ABC Shop (automatic boiler controls pneumatic/electronic back then) and in all aspects of boiler repairs and maintenance. Mediterranean Cruise to Spain, Italy & "we are from" France. Finished up in San Diego where the weather far exceeded the wonders of SLO town and the 'little big city" that was San Diego back then. Night life and mellow laid back everything. Surfing in Mexico when it was safer then than it is now, ahhh "the good o'le days" no doubt!!!
