PEORIA – Amber Star Van Lanen, 34, of Peoria, died at 1:03 a.m., Saturday, November 6, 2010, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria due to head injuries brought about by a fall. She was born September 25, 1976 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Donald and Alice Dugan Van Lanen. Surviving are her mother and step-father, Alice and John Holme of Peoria; her sisters, Lisa Van Lanen of Peoria, Laura Van Lanen of Bloomington; her brother, Marcus (Colleen) Holme of Chicago; her niece, Jasmine Wilson of Peoria, and her beloved dog, Saydie. She is preceded in death by her father. She received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. She was employed by P.A.R.C. as Group Home Manager for the last two years. Previously she worked for CWTC and The Children's Home. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 12, 2010 at the Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. The Rev. Dr. Michael Brown will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to P.A.R.C.; Dogtownrescue.com; or "PETA".

PEORIA - Amy Melissa Asher, 31, of Peoria passed away at 6:01 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at her home.
She was born Aug. 19, 1977, in Charleston, Ill. Her parents are Charles and Diana (Eaves) Asher of Peoria.
Also left to cherish her memory are her "Nanny," Clastie Eaves of Peoria; fiance, Chris Gilles of Peoria; one sister, Amber Asher of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, J.D. Smith of Portland, Ore., and Kee Wilson, and her birthmother, Sandie Wilson, both of Flagstaff, Ariz.; aunt and uncle, Jon (Janet) Asher of Santa Fe, N.M., and Linda (the late Arthur) Forsberg of Estacada, Ore.; a dear friend, Tony Hood of Peoria; and many loving cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by Papaw, Charles Eaves; and grandparents, Charles and Helen Asher.
Amy graduated from Richwoods High School in 1995 and worked for a time as a licensed cosmetologist at several area salons. She was a published writer and was currently working on two novels at the time of her death.
She was a friend of the truest kind. She never met a stranger and would give her last dollar to someone in need. Amy loved music, playing her guitar and singing.
The world has lost a diamond but the sky has gained a star that will shine for eternity. Sleep well beloved.
A service will be at 12 noon, today, Oct. 7, 2008, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. The Rev. Michael Brown will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to P.E.T.A. or to the Epilepsy Foundation.

PEORIA - Audrey Marie Brooks-Miller, 33, of Peoria passed away at 3:07 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
She was born on Jan. 30, 1977, in Peoria to Thomas and Marilyn M. Martyn Brooks-Miller.
Audrey is survived by her mother of Peoria; one brother, Rob Brooks-Miller of Peoria; her maternal grandmother, Eileen Martyn of Peoria; several aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; her maternal grandfather, William Martyn; and her fraternal grandparents, Don and Nancy Brooks-Miller.
She was a graduate of Richwoods High School and a graduate of Illinois Central College.
She was a C.N.A., last working for Bella-Vista Nursing Home.
Audrey was very active in TEC and Cursillo.
She loved family gatherings, especially during the holidays.
She was very thoughtful in giving to so many during her lifetime, that in passing she also gave to others by donating her organs through the "Gift of Hope," so they could benefit by living a full life.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where a memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, with Monsignor Jason Gray officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded. Private burial of ashes will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in West Peoria.
Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Peoria Cursillo/TEC Center or Peoria Rescue Ministries.

Bill was visiting with Richwoods alumni from the class of 1969 in Costa Rica when a severe undertow carried him out to sea and he drowned. He was with the love of his life, Carmen, and as always, Bill was filled with good cheer, joy and kindness. There were 12 or so other alumni, all of whom were staying with 69er Ron Amundsen, who operates a B and B in Costa Rica. He is missed by his classmates and many family and friends made over the course of his short lifetime. RIP.

Brad died at his home in Osage Beach, Mo., on Oct. 24, 2005, aged 46. His obituary did not specify a cause of death. At the time of his death Brad was working at the Lodge of the Four Seasons in Lake Ozark, Mo., in their human resources dept.

Bruce drowned in the Illinois River near Peoria in early Nov, 2011, either 11/1 or 11/2, while trying to recover a boat that had drifted away from a sandbar where he & some friends had beached it.

Daniel was in our graduating class at Richwoods. He also attended Kellar Primary, Lindbergh Middle, and Washington Gifted Schools prior to his time at Richwoods.

We have spoken with Daniel's family to get permission to donate in his name to a charity of their choice (we will likely do a 50/50). This is the information for his family's preference.

PEORIA – David H. “Dave” Nixon, 66, of Peoria, passed away Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Dave was born Nov. 5, 1951 in Peoria, to Harold and Margaret (Stauffer) Nixon. He married Kathleen A. Miller on Oct. 7, 1978 in Carlock, Ill.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy, of Peoria; one daughter, Megan (Judson) Swan of Washington, Ill.; one son, Matt Nixon of Peoria; and one grandson, Caleb David Swan of Washington. He is also survived by one sister, Patti (Bob) Wrobel of Lakewood Ranch, Fla. and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dave graduated from Richwoods High School in 1969 and continued his education at the University of Illinois, receiving a Bachelor’s of Science degree in 1973. During his college years, Dave joined the Delta Upsilon Fraternity serving as President in 1972 and later on the Board of Directors.
After graduating Dave worked at Commercial National Bank before he joined his father in 1974 at Harold G. Nixon Insurance Agency, which would be the beginning of a lifelong career of commitment and leadership in the insurance industry. Dave became one of the first in the State of Illinois to attain the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation in 1977. He became owner of the business in 1982, carrying on the family legacy of excellence in the industry. The company would eventually change to Nixon Insurance Agency, Inc.
Dave’s commitment to the insurance industry was evident throughout his career. He served on the board of the Peoria Association of Independent Agents and on the Executive Committee of the Illinois Professional Insurance Agents, serving as President in 1985. The following year, he was appointed to the National Board of Professional Insurance Agents. The Illinois 1752 Club presented Dave with the Illinois Agent of the Year award in 1987. In 1992, he chaired the Consolidation Committee for the Professional Insurance Agents and the Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois forming the Professional Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois and received the C.M. Cartwright Award in 1993 for his leadership during the consolidation. Safeco Insurance Company presented him with the Lifetime Award of Excellence in 1998 and he was recognized by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors in 2012 for over 35 years of continuing education.
Being involved in the community as well as his children’s activities was very important to Dave. He was active in Southwest Kiwanis, American Heart Association, Boy Scouts of America, Kickapoo Council of Girl Scouts, Richwoods High School Swim Boosters, Central Illinois Aquatics, Richwoods High School Alumni Association, Commonplace and Bradley Braves Club.
Dave’s faith was especially important to him being baptized at Arcadia Avenue Presbyterian Church. He chaired the consolidation committee for Arcadia and First Presbyterian Church, forming United Presbyterian Church in 2003. Dave was a charter member of the United Presbyterian Church in Peoria, where he served as an Elder, Deacon and most recently Church Treasurer.
Dave was an avid golfer and enjoyed college basketball, especially the Bradley Braves and Fighting Illini. Most important to Dave was being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and trusted friend. Dave will truly be missed by all those who knew him.

Cremation rites have been accorded.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 10, 2018 at United Presbyterian Church in Peoria. An additional visitation will take place at the church from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018 with a Memorial Service to follow at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Dr. Laura Reason will officiate. Inurnment of cremated remains will take place at a later date at United Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden in Peoria.

Mr. Wyss was at Richwoods for 24 years, 1970-1994, serving as coach for football and baseball, as well as teaching boys' P.E. His last position at Richwoods was as adminidtrative assistant for student activities. Mr. Wyss played 3 sports during his own high school days at Woodruff, baseball, basketball, and football. He was inducted into the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame on Feb. 18, 1989. He died on May 4, 2009 at Manor Court in Peoria.

PEORIA - Gerald A. "Jerry" Morris of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Peoria, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2012.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and an avid athlete, competing in several marathons from Tennessee to Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob, and his brother, Ron.

Mr. Szepessy was Orchestra director at Richwoods, and before that, at Woodruff for over 30 years. He was also a member of the Peoria Symphony orchestra. He died at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria on July 21, 2005.

Kari Ann Broshears-Tobin, age 49, formerly of Peoria, died Monday, June 15, 2015, at her home in Parker, Colo.

Kari was born Nov. 14, 1965, in Peoria, Ill., to Kay and Bill Broshears.

She graduated from the University of Iowa, and she was currently employed by Comcast at the time of her death.

She is survived by her two sons, Ryan and Matthew; her mother, Kay Peterson; a sister, Kathy; a brother, Tim; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and her niece, Tiffany.

Mr. Korgie taught history, social studies, & economics for 33 years at Richwoods. He served in the Army during the Korean War, winning the Purple Heart, 5 Bronze Stars & 1 Silver Star for bravery in combat, and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He also was voted Teacher of the Year for 1981 & 1983.

Mark died in Peoria, Il. in June of 2001, I believe on June 27. He died of organ failure due to several years of alcohol abuse. Mark played basketball for Richwoods all 4 years, then went on to play for U of I for 4 more years. He eventually played pro basketball in Europe for about 10 years before returning to Peoria. He was working as a teacher's aide at Richwoods at the time of his death.
