Terry Chang
Class of 1969
Army Reserves, 20+ Years
I began my service upon graduation Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI in 1974, when I was commissioned a 2LT. The Vietnam Conflict ended a month after I completed IOBC at Ft Benning, GA. From that time forward until the conclusion of Desert Storm, I served in various positions in the USAR (BCT instructor at Ft Wood, MO; Training Officer at Ft Jackson, SC; Personnel Officer at Ft Dix, NJ; AT Platoon Ldr at Schofield Barracks, HI; Executive Officer at Ft McCoy, WI; to name a few). My highest rank attained was that of a CPT.
While I was an Executive Officer of an Ordinance Company, I took part in exercises in Germany in 1983.
Later, as a Company Commander, I was able to take part in Operation Team Spirit 84 (Winter Maneuver exercises that were held annually in Korea).
For a short time in 1985, I served with another Kalani 69 grad name Walter Best. He was an E6 in an MI battalion in Los Angeles, CA.
In 1992, with the conclusion of hostilities with Iraq and relative peace in the world, I was relegated to the Retired Reserves for a a space of 14 years.
I re-entered the ranks of the Army in 2006 as an E5 (as I had exceeded my MRD) and deployed as a Civil Affairs NCO in Afghanistan. I served two combat tours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and then returned home in February 2008. I was, on an average, roughly thirty years older than most of my counterparts in the field. By the time I returned, I was quite beat up and suffering from a herniated disc in my neck.
In April 2010, I submitted my paperwork and was officially retired in the end of that year.
