Thomas J. Brown Jr
Class of 1984
Navy, 20+ Years
Served in the United States Navy for 24 years. Planned on doing 30+ but just got burnt out!!! The career was quite rewarding. I joined as an E-1 with basic training in Orlando, FL. From there I became a jet engine mechanic stationed in Sigonella, Sicily where I advanced 3 ranks to E-4 and participated in several world crisis and military campaigns for our nation's freedom. Came back to the states (Jacksonville, FL) where I was promoted to E-5. Returned to Italy where I was stationed with my younger brother, Jerome, and we had a ball together fixing aircraft, traveling all over Europe, and playing intramural sports. Came back to the states again (Jacksonvillie, FL) and was promoted to E-6 and E-7 (Navy Chief). Was assigned to USS KENNEDY (CV 67) and promoted to E-8. I changed paths and received a commission to become an Naval Officer. That is when my traveling really started. I was stationed on USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65), USS TRUMAN (CVN 75), USS WASHINGTON (CVN 73), USS BATAAN (LHD 5), USS NASSAU (LHA 4), USS SAIPAN (LHA 2), USS KEASEARGE (LHD 3), USS NASHVILLE (LPD 13), USNS SATURN (T-AFS 10) and USNS SIRIUS (T-AFS 8). Excelled on ships and squadrons alike as a dynamic Naval Maintenance Officer.
