Army, 20+ Years Crew Chief / Door-Gunner Assault Helicopters Platform Started 1967 thru Today We came out the 134th Assault Helicopter Company at Fort Bragg North Carolina. We were in the 1st Flight Platoon and did all of our training for Vietnam. This 1st Flight Platoon became a lift Platoon re-routed to Korea we did not have a name for this lift Platoon yet. We didn’t have any Officers over the rank of 1-Lt First Lieutenant when we left Fort Bragg. On December 9, 1967 this lift Platoon arrive in Korea with 12 Uh-1D Hueys that is when we meant our Commander Major Robert Oliver and 1st Sergeant Davis. I know we got the name for the lift Platoon after the Blue House Raid we played big part. I think it was about 2 or 3 weeks before we had a name for this lift Platoon. When we were told what our name for the Platoon would be they said we are the 6th Aviation Platoon and to take off our Pocket Patch of the 134th. Our main mission was to add Security to the DMZ and support all of the ROK Army and ROK Marines and the US forces on the DMZ and surrounding areas for Quick Reaction Forces. There was another brick - out of North Korean coming across the East side of the DMZ and because the fence on the East side was not finish yet. This when the Platoon would be split in half the 6th Aviation Platoon would be in both Camp Red Cloud and Camp Page back in January 1968. I was a Helicopter Crew Chief / DoorGunner and Maint Clark in Korea at the same time of the Vietnam War. We were there when the North Korean took the U.S. Navy Ship the USS Peblo and they men and women were Proud in what we did back then. We wore the Black Beret back then and our call sign was the BlackHat. Korea 1967 thru 1969 this 6th Aviation Platoon was the First and only Assault Helicopters in all of Korea at that time.
