About Rachel Myers Gibson, Ardent believer in The Word passed into His eternal grasp on October 25, 2013 at age 20 after a long battle with leukemia. Cherished and beloved as a daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend, she was a force of energy, devotion, loyalty, humor, compassion, sincerity, insight and strength that lovingly impacted all who knew her. While attending Willowbrook High School, she played on the golf team, participated in student council and worked on the literary magazine. She reportedly painted the rock only once. While attending Elmhurst College as a communications and political science major, Rachel sang with the Womens' choir, participated in a multitude of service projects and joined the Sigma Kappa sorority. She was an avid praise worshipper at more than one church and spent many years as a vacation Bible school leader. One of her great loves was singing with Anima Young Singers including performances with the CSO, a rousing July 4th concert at Millennium Park and a Make A Wish benefit at Wells Cathedral in England. Another gift was her attachment to animals; most loved were her horse and dogs. She even had a knack for calling wild dolphins and manatees to her while visiting family in Florida. Never shy about sharing her opinions, being a patriot and believing in the immense abilities of mankind, Rachel worked on political campaigns and was a relentless advocate for children with special healthcare needs. Her plan was to change the world and she had the drive to do just that. But, as her time on this Earth has been cut short, she would with great expression direct us all to carry on the torch. To honor that order, a memorial fund has been created to centralize donations to a variety of organizations that were very special to Rachel including Anima Young Singers, Friends for Therapeutic Equine Activities, Almost Home Kids, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Make A Wish and Comer Childrens' Hospital Cancer Research. Donations can be sent to the DuPage Community Foundation, 104 E Roosevelt, Suite 204, Wheaton, IL 60187. Please mark donations in the memo line of the check with the designation of the "Rachel Gibson Memorial Fund." Memorial Visitation will be Monday, November 4th, from 3pm to 8pm with a short prayer service beginning at 7pm at Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home, 17W201 Roosevelt Rd, Oakbrook Terrace, IL. Memorial Service will take place Tuesday, November 5th, 11am at Yorkfield Presbyterian Church, 1099 S. York Road, Elmhurst, IL 60126. Rachel would wish for her loved ones to rely on these words: "for this day is holy to our Lord; and do not be grieved for the joy of the Lord is your strength."
