| About | Dana Quesinberry Markham, age 89 of Roanoke, VA, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023- and was born in Virginia on July, 29, 1934. She is preceded in death by her loving husband B. L. Markham; daughter Dana Markham Short; parents Lawrence Hobson and Rhoda "Sissy" Quesinberry; sister Rebecca Prillaman and brothers Alexander and Victor Hawks. Dana is survived by her daughter Rebecca Markham Boone (Kirby), son-in-law Warren Short; grandchildren Kirby J. Boone, Amanda Boone Crews (Curtis) and Reid W. Short and her nieces and nephews. Dana was a graduate of Hardin Reynolds High School (class of 51) in Stuart, VA and went on to receive her Bachelors Degree from Mary Washington and obtained her Masters Degree from Virginia Tech. Her teaching career started at William Byrd High School and led her to a long successful tenure in Roanoke County Schools, with a focus in Home Economics. She was a long-time member of the Hinoki Bonsai Society, Blue Ridge Chrysanthemum Society, and National Chrysanthemum Society where was a master judge. She was a long-time member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church. Dana was a dedicated member and benefactor of the North Carolina Arboretum. Funeral Services will be held for Dana at Oakeys Roanoke Chapel on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 12 Noon with Rev. John Synder officiating with interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will also receive friends on Monday, September 18, 2023 from 2-4pm and 6-8m at Oakeys Roanoke Chapel. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Dana's namen to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org and the North Carolina Arborteum, www.ncarboretum.com.
