Charles Emory (Chuck) Mills, 62, of Roanoke, Va., passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. He was born in Roanoke, Va., on January 6, 1956, a son of the late Jack Lawrence Mills and Hilda Allene Garrett. Chuck retired from Roanoke City Fire-EMS in June of 2009, several weeks later he left for Iraq where he was employed under private contract as a firefighter on a military base. After returning home he was employed as a firefighter with Pro-Tec Fire Services at the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport, rising to the rank of Captain, and remained with Pro-Tec until June of this year when a newly created public safety team assumed command. Chuck was an avid golfer, a diehard Earnhardt, Virginia Tech and Baltimore Orioles fan. He was also known as the "Vette Dr.," specializing in restoration and customized paint jobs on Corvettes, winning many local and regional car shows as well as having his work published in Vette Magazine. In addition to his parents, Chuck was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Gordon "Brother" Mills. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Eric Mills (Amy), Josh Mills, and Trey Mills, all of Roanoke; his grandchildren, Tyler Mills, Autumn Mills, and Jack Mills, all of Roanoke; sister, Carolyn Wright (Vic) of Reidsville, N.C.; nephew, Danny (Melissa) Wright of Indianapolis, Ind.; niece, Dana Wright of Lynchburg; great-nieces, Victoria Wright and Alyssa Wright, of Indianapolis, Ind.; and many close friends and golfing buddies. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 27, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. The Funeral Service will be held at noon on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at the First Church of God, 5008 Hildebrand Road, NW, Roanoke, VA 24012. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park.
