Jessi Winchester
Class of 1961
McKinley Kantor seemed to set the pace for writers coming out of Webster City. Larry Prehm, from the Class of 1959, penned an excellent fiction novel titled "Charkey's Reef." The Class of 1961 had not one ... but two ... authors. Mary Kay Shanley became a freelance writer, author of several successful books, a speaker, and writing workshop instructor. Jessi Winchester - known to her classmates as Jeanie Vinall - also became a freelance writer, a contributing editor for a national liberty magazine, and the author of two non-fiction books - "From Bordello to Ballot Box" and "America: The Final Chapter." She ran for U.S. House of Representatives in 1996, placing second in the primary election and two years later finished third in a field of nine for Nevada Lt. Governor.
