Served on the USS Perkins DD877 duties were Naval Gun fire support, Sea Air Rescue and Plane guard. I was a Machinist mate 2nd class at time of discharge. I was responsible for after Engine Room a 22.000 HP Westinghouse steam turbine. It had lots of moving parts. Glad I did it Glad I don't have to do it anymore.

KIA. Lost at sea, 9/22/1960 when Marine DC 6 expolded 180 miles SE of Okinawa. All on board, 6 Marines and 23 USN perished.
Cousin, Charles Tyson, has been seeking truth in this matter fo the past several years. The USN only admitted he served our Country on 2/2/2012.
Any person who knew Richard is urged to call or write Richard's cousin. There is much more to this story and he would like to knnow about his school years.

Richard was in charge of secret operations involving aircraft camera loading and unloading, and processing of images taken on fixed wing aircraft flying from carriers in the Pacific. Received Regular Navy commission from Universtiy of Washington Navy ROTC June 1972. Served 9 months NAS Pensacola -fligth training - with drew. 1973 - 1976 LTJG aboard USS OCALLAHAN (FF-1051) West Pac / Viet Nam. Resigned Regular Commission accepted Reserve Commission in October, 1976. Serve on various auxillary and shipboard commands as LCDR. Retired in July 1993 after 16 years reserve time. Will retire with pay August 2010.

Joined CA Army National Guard 1989, in involved with Desert Shield in 1990 and honorably discharged after a serious permanent knee injury. Highest rank-SSG.
1996 I joined the Army Corps of Engineers highest rank Major.
