Jerre Parker McDonald
Class of 1970
Navy, 20+ Years
Joined the Navy as a nurse and as any fellow service members know you go where and do what they tell you to do. For example, while stationed at Cherry Point, N.C., I was working in the Emergency Room when I was called into the Captains office (it gave you the feeling that you were being called into the Principles Office!), where I was told that I would take charge of the Labor & Delivery Deck Thinking to myself I don't know anything about birthing babies; hadn't seen a delviery since nursing school...I protested, saying, "there are civilian nurses who have had much more experience than I have!" The reponse was that you are a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. Well, I learned how to birth babies! This knowledge came in handy while stationed in Adak, Alaska.
After Adak, I cam back state side and went and trained as an Operating Room Nurse and that is where I spent the remainder of my Military career. Sent to Camp Pendleton, Calif. for training setting up the Navy's version of MASH! I enjoyed every minute of it! If I had it to do all over again I would. I am very proud to have served my country.
