He was born Dec. 13, 1949, in Columbus to Dr. Harold E. and Bette Annette Lauer. His father preceded him in death. His mother, Bette Strong, survives in Lima. On Aug. 28, 1976, he married Diane Navarre, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Lauer retired in 2004 from the Allen County Juvenile Court, after 30 years. He was chief probation officer at the juvenile detention center, where he volunteered and hosted Camp Opportunity and eventually became director of court services. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church for more than five decades, where he and been an acolyte, participated in the youth choir, served on the council and had been an usher. He was a member of Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and was a certified instructor for the National Sporting Clays Association. He was a 1968 graduate of Shawnee High School and a 1972 graduate of The Ohio State University. He had also earned his counseling certificate.
He was a doting husband, father and uncle. He was an avid outdoorsman, who spent countless hours catching walleye on Lake Erie with his father, brothers and son. He was an animal lover, especially of English setter hunting dogs. He loved to compete in shotgun sports, with and affinity for sporting clays. His favorite time of the year was spent with family and friends watching the Buckeyes battle every Saturday during the fall. After battling and beating oral cancer in 2000, he volunteered with the American Cancer Society and St. Rita's Medical Center, speaking to youth and adults all over Ohio about the harmful effects of smoking. His goal was to spread education about cancer prevention and nicotine addiction. After his retirement, his lifelong high school friends regrouped and met for breakfast on Thursday mornings solving the "world's problems."
Survivors also include a son, Andrew E. Lauer, of Columbus; a daughter, Lena Lauer, of Lima; two brothers, John A. Lauer and Herb (Karlyn) Lauer, both of Lima; and a sister, Annette (Phil) Lang, of Noblesville, Ind.

Chris Taylor passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at his residence in Fedhaven, FL.
He was born January 17, 1968 in Dayton, Ohio to Ron & Cheryl Taylor; he came here 22 years ago from Lima, OH. He graduated from Shawnee High School in Lima, OH in 1986 and attended the Florida Christian College. He was a member of the Winter Haven Christian Church, an avid Dolphin’s fan and loved all sports, including golf. He was a tremendous athlete, a devoted Christian and a giving and loving person.
Survivors include his parents, Ron & Cheryl Taylor of Winter Haven; daughter, Hannah Faith Taylor of Winter Haven; brothers, Dean Taylor of Winter Haven and Scott Taylor of Brandon, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Sunday, January 11, 2009 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales. Services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, January 12, 2009 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales.

Jeff Hutchison was killed when the plane he was flying crashed into Lake Erie late Monday evening (9/4/07). Jeff and his nine year old son died as a result of the crash. Jeff's seven year old son survived the crash and was rescued. There are stories posted on the Lima News website if you need more information.

John S. Sarson, 59, died June 26, 2009, following a courageous fight with cancer.
He was born Jan. 25, 1950, in Detroit to Ronald S. and Ora Alice Chewning Sarson. His father survives in Bellefontaine; his mother died July 7, 2008.
Mr. Sarson was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War, and served with the Air National Guard. He was an industrial hygienist. He was a member of the American Legion and the National Hot Rod Association. He enjoyed driving his hot rod to car shows and being with his family.
Survivors include two sons; Ryan S. (Angela) Sarson, of Troy, and Bradley J. Sarson, of Huber Heights; a sister, Carol Wapplehorst, of Bellefontaine; three grandchildren, Cooper Wemmer, Aidyn Sarson and Hunter Sarson; and a niece, a nephew, and three great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jerry Wapplehorst.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Bellefontaine. The Rev. Tim West will officiate. Burial will be in the Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery, Dayton, where a military graveside service will begin at 3 p.m.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

LISA SUE KRITES MORRIS, 42, died at 8:15 a.m. April 4, 2006, at her sister's residence.
She was born Oct. 16, 1963, in Lima to Ralph and Lillie Pryor Krites, who preceded her in death. On May 26, 1984, in Kenneth E. Morris, who survives.
Mrs. Morris had worked on the assembly line at LG.Philips, Ottawa, and had worked at Vend-Ar and Wal-Mart. She was a graduate of Shawnee High School and Apollo Career Center. She was a devoted mother, wife, sister and aunt. She loved to cook, was an avid bowler and euchre player and loved country music.
Survivors also include two daughters, Jennifer Morris and Andrea "Sis" Morris, both at home; a brother, Tony Krites of New Orleans; two sisters, Sandy Burden and Linda (Dick) Sherard, both of Lima; and her father- and mother-in-law, Richard and Sherry Morris of Wapakoneta.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. today at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. Tom Niese will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, near Uniopolis.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita's Hospice or to a scholarship fund for her daughters.

He was born Nov. 7, 1949, in Lima to Lewis A. and Betty Jean Grass Hitchner. His father preceded him in death. His mother, Betty Jean Whitley, survives in Lima.
Mr. Hitchner was a 1968 graduate of Shawnee High School and attended Kent State University. He had lived in Las Vegas for the last 20 years.
Survivors also include three sisters, Bonnie (Bob) Coover of Delaware, Ohio, Connie (Ted) Cornwell of Lima and Carrie (Bob) Hunsley of Royal Oak, Mich.; two nephews, Chris Harrod and Justin Cornwell; five nieces, Michelle Fendrick, Heidi Callan, Heather Durren, Hope Warren and Mariah Cunningham; and 10 great-nieces and -nephews.
He was preceded in death by a nephew, Heath Niles Warren, who died March 4, 1982.
There will be no public services or visitation. Burial of the cremains will be in Shawnee Cemetery.

Ted went on to complete both a Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
After graduating from MIT, Ted embarked on a career in the energy field, finding better and more efficient ways of refining oil, processing coal, and safely handling related by-products and waste. Ted spent approximately five years with the MIT Fuels Laboratory and, for 20 years, was with Cabot Corporation, where he developed new technology and implemented it in their facilities worldwide, where he gained the reputation as an innovative problem solver. He went on to work for Separation Technology where he designed separators and oversaw the startup of the separators at power plants. Ted holds 4 US patents. Throughout his career, Ted traveled extensively and acquired many collectables from around the world.
Ted’s abilities as thinker, creator, and fixer carried over to his personal life. He was a fine-scale modeler, sports car enthusiast and avid reader of anything that piqued his curiosity. He could create or fix just about anything. Ted loved the beach and spent many summers vacationing on the Outer Banks with his family. Ted’s interests went beyond the technical and scientific to include music and the arts. Above all, he devoted himself to his family and was dearly loved by them. He was also highly regarded by all who knew him, family, friends and co-workers alike. His standard of loyalty and integrity was matched by few.
Ted is survived by his wife of 43 years, Maria Croul-Bush; his son Timothy and wife, Alison, of Bolton, MA; his son Trevor and wife, Parina, of Gothenburg, Sweden. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Juliana, Emily, and Kasey of Bolton and grandsons, William and Jack of Gothenburg. He also leaves a sister, Judy Beaudet of Beverly, MA.
A memorial service will be held at later date. In lieu of flowers gifts may be made in Ted’s memory, to support the BPDCN cancer research of Dr. Andrew Lane, at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445
