Two AVTEC culinary chefs recognized as best in Alaska
Two chefs on the Alaska Vocational Technical Center instructional staff were recently honored by their peers. Chef Robert Wilson, AVTEC's Culinary Academy department head, was named the Alaska Culinary Association's Chef of the Year at the association's annual gala at the Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage. Chef Kevin Lane, another AVTEC instructor, competed in the Ultimate Chef Alaska contest April 30 at the Egan Center in Anchorage. To be eligible, Lane had submitted a classic menu for a four-course meal for three people that could be prepared in an hour. From the menus that were submitted, three chefs from around the state were chosen and invited to compete for the title of Ultimate Chef Alaska. The judging was based on food quality, presentation and creativity. Lane won the title of Ultimate Chef Alaska.
