Kinney P Walkup
Class of 1963
Navy, 4 Years
Joined the Navy 1964 and spent 4 years aboard the Destroyer USS ORLECK DD886. Spent 4 years in Viet Nam on the same ship. From 1964 to 1968
Lot of great memories and hard times. First cruise was for a little over 2 1/2 years then came back to the states for 6 months then back over for the duration. Spent 2 more years in the reserves. total of 6 years.
Now my ship is a museum and a lot of my old shipmates have been working on her to restore it back to our time. Was the longest running Destroyer in the US Navy then it was sold to the Turkish Navy where it was used for little over 10 more years then was given back to the US as it was still in pretty good shape. Have made it to a couple of reunions with my wife Judy (McDaniel class of 1962) She passed away November of 2012 after 24 great years together.
