Sam Blair
Class of 1958
Sam Blair was a major ingredient in the glue that held the class of '58 together. He was an excellent student and a leader in a rather unobtrusive, behind-the-scenes way. He was involved in many school activities including being editor of the school newspaper, the Hi-Comet, and president of Quill and Scroll. He never sought attention for himself but had a real interest in others and a curiosity that kept him ever fresh and alert.
It was not until years after leaving NLRHS that I realized what a dear friend Sam was to ALL of us--male and female. He was always ready to lend a helping hand but never interested in taking credit for doing so. (He probably kept some of us from failing 10th grade geometry--and 11th grade algebra!) He remained in touch with many of us after we parted ways and today is in touch with many classmates, enabling us to connect with each other again. Sam values friendships--and his friends value Sam!
It is not surprising that, after being an English teacher for a few years, Sam ended up as a counselor at Little Rock Central where he continued to aid students in their quest for success and endear himself to them and their families. His sense of humor and self-effacing ways have etched a special place in our memories and we continue to enjoy his friendship. The ripples of Sam's good deeds will go on for generations to come.
