About	MARY MINCEY WHITTEN was my good friend and running mate. I have many wonderful memories of us double dating at the drive-in movie with our current loves of the week or just riding around the oil roads in Mary’s red and black ’57 Mercury Monterrey. What fun times we had in that car! Other fond memories include the night Mary and I skipped church right after Training Union to go home and watch the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. It sounded like a great idea at the time, but was probably the worst idea we had ever come up with. Our parents were not happy! On graduation night, Mary and I celebrated by going to the Malt Shop and drinking chocolate Dr. Peppers. We thought we were so cool. Mary attended Sul Ross in Alpine, TX. She worked at the First National Bank in Monahans before she married. Mary married William Whitten in December 1967. They moved to Austin and lived there throughout their married life. Mary’s dream of being a mother was cut short in 1972 when she was diagnosed with cancer and lost the baby she was carrying due to the disease. Mary fought a valiant fight, but lost her battle to cancer in December of the same year. We know that now she is in heaven with her precious baby.
