Paul Payton
Class of 1978
Paul graduated Mills at the tender age of sixteen, got his undergraduate degree at twenty, and joined Lockheed (now Lockheed Martin) two weeks after graduation. In his three decade tenure in aerospace, he worked himself up from associate engineer to principal software engineer reporting to the vice president of R&D...authoring or co-authoring over fifty papers (including four book chapters) on topics in photogrammetry, projective geometry, and image understanding. He holds six patents. He was elected to membership in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Science and Engineering, received commendations from NASA for his work on the Columbia Shuttle Accident Investigation, and numerous awards for classified missions of national importance. He recently joined Visa's Chief Technology Office in an R&D capacity of chief systems engineer specializing in Big Data analytics, machine learning, and data visualization. He is a life member of Mensa and several other high IQ societies and gives guest lectures on technical matters at U.C. Berkeley Extension (where he pursued a graduate degree in theoretical computer science).
