Served 1988-1992 as an Aviation Electronics Technician for VP-31 squadron, located at Naval Air Station Moffett Field, CA. Prior to being assigned at this duty station, I completed boot camp in Orlando, FL and Naval Air Technical Training Command in Millington, TN. I was promoted to Petty Officer 3rd Class and attended specialized training in Navigation & Communication Equipment on the P-3 aircraft.
Moffett Field was home of the P-3 Orion, an anti-submarine warfare aircraft used for training and patrolling the western coast of the United States. The VP-31 squadron was once the home of the USS Macon (ZRS-5), an airship lost off the coast of California.
Tasked with ensuring the aircraft of VP-31 were operational ready at all times. I was also assigned as Training Officer for the Maintenance Department.
Awarded the Good Conduct Medal, The National Defense Award, Pistol Sharpshooter Ribbon, and Special Operations Service Award.
Assigned to this duty station just three (3) months before the 7.1 earthquake hit the San Francisco Bay area.
