Major Douglas Hardy was born in New York City, but raised in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He attended James W. Robinson Secondary School, where he excelled both in classroom, as an honors student, and in athletics. He attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he studied Criminal Justice and Psychology. After his freshmen year, he enlisted in the Untied States Marine Corps Reserves and was sent to Pairs Island, SC for recruit training. After being activated for Dessert Strom, he voluntarily remained two additional years on active duty before returning to school. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 6 June 1994, and reported for training with BOC 5-94 at the Basic School. In March 1995, Major Hardy reported to Air Support Control Officers Course in Twenty Nine Palms, CA. In June 1995, he checked into Marine Air Support Squadron Two, Okinawa, Japan and was assigned as an Air Support Control Officer. He returned from Okinawa, Japan in June 1996, and was then assigned to Marine Air Control Group Twenty Eight in Cherry Point, NC, as the Plans Officer for the next six months. He was then attached to Marine Air Support Squadron One as an Air Support Control Officer. In February 1998, he deployed to the Mediterranean Sea region for five months with MACG DET 28, 26th MEU (SOC) as the Executive Officer. In September of 1998, he returned to Marine Air Support Squadron One to serve as the Training Officer for the next ten months. In August of 1999, he reported to Command and Control Systems Course. After completing CCSC in May 2000, he reported to the Basic School where he was assigned to the Combined Arms Section in the Warfighting Instructor Group as the primary Land Navigation Instructor. After completing a year in the Warfighting Instructor Group, he was assigned as Staff Platoon Commander for two companies. After a year as a Staff Platoon Commander, he returned to the Warfighting Instructor Group. In summer of 2003 he returned to Marine Air Support Squadron One as the Direct Air Support Control Center Officer In Charge (OIC). On December 5th 2003 he left for a six-month deployment to East Africa. Major Hardy was assigned to Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa as the Assistant Current Operation Officer (ACOPS). He returned to the U.S. in early June and took over the Operation Section. In January of 2005 he deployed to OIF 04-06 acting as detachment OIC. He returned to MASS-1 as the Acting Commanding Officer in September of that same year. He is currently assigned to Joint Information Operations Center in San Antonio, TX. In September he completed his second tour in Iraq.
