About Me	Sparkle T. Anderson is a Corporate Communications Specialist for CenterPoint Energy. In this position, she has served as co-chair of the nation's largest Hurricane Preparedness event, the Hurricane Workshop, for which she recently received the National Weather Association's Walter J. Bennett Public Service Award. At CenterPoint Energy, she handles print, radio and television advertising, while executing corporate sponsorships and public relations for the utility. After 2.1 million customers lost power following Hurricane Ike, Sparkle worked around the clock writing press releases, organizing media availabilities and handling media requests. From this work, her entry titled, CenterPoint Energy's Response to Hurricane Ike: The Storm of Public Opinion garnered a Bronze Quill from the International Association of Business Communicators. After working three years in broadcast television on the assignments desk for both KPRC-TV and KHOU-TV in Houston, she made the difficult decision to change career paths and pursue a career in Corporate Communications; she has not looked back. She received her Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin and is currently pursuing a Masters degree at Rice University. In her free time, she serves as a court-appointed advocate for a child in CPS custody and volunteers regularly with a variety of local non-profits. She recently received CenterPoint Energy's top volunteer honor - 2009 Volunteer of the Year, for her continued dedication and commitment to community service. She is a proud member of the Mu Kappa Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. where she currently serves as Co-Chair of the Community Service committee.
