Dr. Sam H. Hughes

Class of 1963

I am Sam H. Hughes, Ed.D. grew up in 3rd ward. I attended Miller Jr and Yates High. I was in the ROTC Drill team at Yates.I attended TSU (BS, MS, EdD), served in the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman in Viet Nam, disabled vet retired from the Navy

I reitired from HISD after 32 years as an administrator. First and only Director of Adapted Physical Education for HISD .Also a Special Education Supervisor.

I am a USATF track &field official and coach, I coach little league baseball with Almeda Little League, I am track coach for KIPP Academy School. I compete in the Senior Olympics and the Veterans Golden Age Games through the VA hospital.

I am a published author, "When Tomorrow Comes" and currently working on two more books-"Four Days to Glory" about Obama's election in efforts in Flordia and "Zig,Zag Rainbow"-poems and stories for today's black youths.

One of my many high lites at Yates was my building the first and only bon fire to be held on an HISD campus in 1963. Thats me standing on top of the bon fire in the Yates yearbook( before we started the fire). I was a memeber of the Cavalier Club,Press Club and Student Council at Yates, ROTC Drill Team that performed at half time of football games.
Retired living in Houston.
