Sherry Frye Phillips attended Indian River High School in Chesapeake, VA.

Class of 1972
Date of Passing Jun 22, 2026
Sherry Frye Phillips, 72, of Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026. Born and raised in Indian River, she was a graduate of Indian River High School.

Sherry faced her diagnosis with incredible strength, fighting a year-long battle with squamous cell lung cancer driven by an EGFR Exon 19 mutation-a rare, specific genetic variation that triggers aggressive tumor growth.

Sherry's life was defined by her incredible patience and an immense love for children. She was the absolute heart of her family, sharing 55 beautiful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Steve Phillips.

An avid gardener and lover of birds, Sherry found great joy in the quiet beauty of nature, especially during cherished days spent at Lake Anna. She was equally at home cheering in the stands, spending countless hours on ball fields, by volleyball courts, and at swim meets. Above all, her greatest joy was her seven grandchildren, and she absolutely loved being their "Nana." They brought endless light and purpose to her life.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Steve; her children, Amy Grey (Kevin), Troy Phillips (Maria), and Adam Phillips (Casey); and her seven cherished grandchildren.

The funeral service will take place at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the Hollomon-Brown Great Bridge Chapel, located at 524 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322; the family will receive friends from 12:30-1:00 PM. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Amada Senior Care and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Sherry's honor to the EGFR Resisters or the Lung Cancer Research Foundation to support targeted research for EGFR-positive lung cancer.
