Commissioned 8 May 1978 at Saint Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. Completed M.A. program in Psychology (May'79). Entered Active Duty 1/19/80. Completed MSC officer's basic course at Ft. Sam Houston, TX. Served three years active duty at Fort Hood. honorably discharged and transitioned to civilian life. Continued service in U.S. Army Reserve (USAR), serving two wartime mobilizations (Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom). Served two consecutive tours of duty in Iraq with the HHC/448th Civil Affairs Battalion and HHC/413th Civil Affairs Battalion (2005-06). Honorably discharged at the rank of LTC/O-5 from USAR in 2008.

Retired as a Master Chief Machinist's Mate after 23 years in the U S Navy Submarine Force. Served on diesel electric and nuclear powered submarines which included several deployments under the Arctic ice pack and numerous assignments to the Carribean, Mediteranian, North Sea and North Atlantic.

Coast Guard, 4 Years
Spent 2 on the Cutter Rush on duty deck force. I got assigned to the helicopter tie down crew. I advanced to senior tie down. Every time a copter came aboard I was in charge of making sure that all was safe for the tie down crew. From there I was transferred to Point Reyes Lighthouse until it was placed on the automation list. The best 4 months of my career. Then I went to 12th Coast Guard District Office. I was a vehicle dispatcher. I had about 20 vehicles in my pool. I was also in charge of all Coast Guard Stations in northern California.
