Entered the United States Army in 1941, training at Camp Edward in Falmouth, MA as part the 182th Infantry Division, before shipping out to the Pacific in January 1942. As part of the newly formed Americal Division, Joe served 33 months overseas at places such as Guadalcanal and Bougainville. An accomplished drummer, he also played in the Regimental Band.

I kill ya. lol...My 4 year active duty tour included 2 years stateside mostly at Fort Polk...then to Hanau, Germany to protect the Fulda area in west Germany between the Rhine River and Soviet-dominated East Germany...but the Russians weren't fact they went home years earlier.
