As part of the newly formed Americal Division, Joe served 33 months overseas at places such as Guadalcanal and Bougainville. An accomplished drummer, he also played in the Regimental Band.

I kill ya. lol...My 4 year active duty tour included 2 years stateside mostly at Fort Polk...then to Hanau, Germany to protect the Fulda Gap..an area in west Germany between the Rhine River and Soviet-dominated East Germany...but the Russians weren't there..in fact they went home years earlier.
