Nancy Stephan
Class of 1983
Gary, IN, native and Hammond High School alumna (1983) Nancy Stephan was named Georgia Author of the Year at the 48th annual Georgia Author of the Year Awards (GAYA) ceremony. Stephan’s book, “The Truth About Butterflies†won in the “Memoir†category. 105 authors were nominated in 12 categories, and Stephan was one of 12 winners to take home the prestigious GAYA.
The GAYA has the distinction of being the oldest literary awards in the Southeastern United States. The Awards have grown in prestige and participation since its inception in 1964 by the Dixie Council of Authors and Journalists.
