Alton Womack
Class of 1968
Army, 23 Years
Enlisted in 1975 as a Company Clerk with my wife, Beth, who enlisted for a Computer MOS.. Attended Airborne School in 1976 and assigned the 82d Abn Div. We had our first child, Gabe in 1977. Beth took a Pregnancy discharge. Reenlisted in 1978 with an assignment to Hawaii for two years. Our second child, Shiloh was born in 1979. Selected for Officer Candidate School in 1980. Promoted to Staff Sergeant in 1980. Attended Officer Candidate School and graduated in December 1980 as an Infantry Officer. Out third child, Rachel born while I attended OCS. Assigned to Ft Leonard Wood to a Basic Combat Training Brigade. I was a training Officer for a year and a Company Commander for 18 months. I was selected for Initial Entry Rotary Wing Training - Helicopter Flight School - in 1981 - Assigned to Ft Campbell for three years, assigned to South Korea in 1988 and served as a Attack Helicopter Company Command for 12 months. Assigned to the Aviation Brigade in the First Cavalry. I was the Read Detachment Commander during the unit deployment for Desert Shield/Desert Storm. I was the the Aviation Brigade S-1 (personnel and Admin) until reassigned to Ft. Sheridan, IL for two years from 1993-1995. I was reassigned to the University of Dayton Army ROTC program and in addition to some instructor duties I was the Recruiting Operations Officer (ROO) until my retirement in February 1999 after 23.5 years. I rehired as a contractor in 2000 at UD and changed to a Dept of Army Civilian in 2013 and still serve in that capacity as of 2026.
