Bruce Howell
Class of 1967
Army, 2 Years
I was drafted into the Army on January 2nd of 1968. After processing for a few days at Ft. Hamilton in Brooklyn, NY.
My 8 week "Basic Training" was accomplished at Ft Jackson, South Carolina. UGH!
Following "Basic", my AIT training brought me to the Oh So Beautiful, Fort Sill, Oklahoma.! There I learned everything I needed to know relating to Artillery. There I trained for another 8 weeks.
After Graduation at Ft. Sill, I was sent home for 30 days leave prior to before shipping over seas to Damstat, Germany. Great Duty for the next 18 months. (Thank you God)
After serving in Germany for 6 months, I unexpectedly received orders for Vietnam where I was to spend my remaining 12 months of service.
In Vietnam, I spent 6 months at "Bear Cat" base camp located roughly 35 miles south east of Siagon. For my remaining 6 months of service in Vietnam, my unit was moved to Tay Ninh Base Camp located along the Cambodia Border roughly 75 miles north west of Sigon. Not a fun place to be.
.In December of '69, I received orders to fly home for Christmas (December, 1969) where I would receive my honorable discharge and freedom, well earned.

Ed Norman
Class of 1967
Air Force, 20+ Years
Spent 24 years in aircraft maintenance on several different models. Been to Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, Germany, England and Saudi during Desert Storm. Been to places that I do not want to return to and have seen things that I don't need to see again. Retired in 1993. Looking back, time went by pretty quickly.Retirement from the Air Force involved mixed emotions. On one hand it was what I did for so many years, and did well. I had job security and a regular paycheck. On the other, I never knew what was coming up that would sent me packing to another place somewhere around the globe away from home. All in all, it was a great experience, met some great people, worked with some great people and learned more than I can now remember.
