Gary was a co-captain that took the undefeated Farmingdale High School football team to their state championship in 1971. He went to Union College in New York and later, pursued a career in teaching writing, acting, play and screen writing, and theater in New York City.
He married artist and writer Karen Katz and have a daughter, granddaughter, and son-in-law.

Gary requested a celebration of life at their upstate home. Family, friends, and some member of the football team shared stories, tears, love, and food all afternoon on a warm Fall day.

Gary was an icon in High School. Well respected, friendly, but always remembered as the Captain and Quarterback of the 1971 Championship season. A strong spirit. God bless your family.

We shared a bedroom for about 14 years—a brother, best friend, a football hero, and loved by so many. We shared a mutual admiration for one another. Gary would make anyone he was speaking with feel like they were the only ones that mattered. Gary's spirit was deep, sensitive, caring, loving, and will always live in me. —Ned
