Dear Classmates,
Your class reunion committee members have been discussing our upcoming 50th reunion and all agreed to have it at the Deep Creek Ruritan Club Beef Fest, as we did our 45th class reunion
For those of you not familiar with the Beef Fest, it is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Ruritan Club. It will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at the lzaak Walton League Park on Shipyard Road. The menu consists of slow-cooked barbecued beef gently basted with a special sauce. Side dishes, including baked beans and coleslaw, are also served along with rolls and desserts. There is plenty of iced tea and lemonade to drink, and if anyone wants anything stronger, there is a beer truck and a "hospitality tent" with well-brand mixed drinks. There is also a live band. This year’s band is Brasswind (thebrasswind.com). All of this is offered for only $35 per person. Also, attire at the Beef Fest is strictly informal (jeans, shorts, t-shirts and sandals).
All of the money that the Ruritans raise from the event goes right back into the Deep Creek community in the form of scholarships for Deep Creek High School graduates along with many other activities including support for the fire and police departments and veterans' groups. They give $10,000 each year to the EDMARC Hospice for Children, sponsor "Clean the Bay Day" in Deep Creek each year, and support all Deep Creek youth sports leagues. The Ruritans do all the work. They prepare the food, setup the site, hire the band, and clean up afterwards. Most important, they make some money to help the Deep Creek community. Additionally, they will provide us an alumni party tent at the site where we can gather to eat and share in the fellowship of the day.

Saturday, September 16th:
2:30 — 6:00 p.m. — Deep Creek Ruritan Club Beef Fest at the lzaak Walton League park off Shipyard Road. For those of you not familiar with the area, just follow the purple and white directional signs from "downtown Deep Creek" to the Beef Fest location.
Ticket Information:
Send a #10 (4.13 X 9.5) self-addressed stamped envelope along with a check or money order ($35 per person) payable to: Deep Creek Ruritan Club, 428 Willow Bend Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23323. (Please add “Class of 1973” in the memo line of the check).

If you aren’t sure whether you can make the date, you can purchase tickets at the gate on September 16th for $40 per person.

I just found out that the time for the BeefFest has changed to 1-5 PM on Sunday, 10/28/2018.
Dear Classmates,
Unfortunately due to Hurricane Florence, the BeefFest has been rescheduled to Sunday, 10/28/2018 from 2-6 pm.
If anyone who purchased a ticket has a conflict with the new date, the Ruritans will refund their money. If you can’t attend the new date, please mail your tickets back to the

Several of our class reunion committee members recently met with Mike Kirsch, with the Deep Creek Ruritan Club, to discuss our 45th class reunion. Before the meeting, we discovered that three previous classes (66, 67, & 72) had come up with the idea last year to have their reunion in conjunction with the Deep Creek Ruritan Club's annual Beef Fest fundraiser. Since this idea sounded interesting, we invited Mike (Class of 67) to explain what they did and how it all worked out.

The first opportunity will be on Friday night, 10/25/2013 at DC Middle (Old High) School before the home football game against Indian River HS (7PM). The plan is to meet in the cafeteria (back door across from the tennis courts) at 5:30 pm for light refreshments. There is no charge for the Friday night gathering before the football game.
The second opportunity will be an evening of food and fellowship on Saturday, 10/26/2013. In order to keep our cost down, we have planned a very informal reunion, much like our 25, 30, and 35 year reunions. The building and gardens are “open air” so dress appropriately.
