Bruce Junior Moore 72, of Asheville, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Mission Hospital.
He was born in Waynesville on July 27, 1953, to the late Junior Lee and Edith Marie Surrett Moore. He was the grandson of the late Dock and Allie Surrett and Robert Lee and Flora Moore.
He attended Leicester Elementary School and Erwin High School, never missing a day in all 12 years, an accomplishment for which he earned several awards. Bruce retired from Ethan Allen to work as a cattle farmer and care for his ailing parents. Bruce had proclaimed his Christian faith was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his cousin and caregiver, Doris Shetley and husband Dennis and their two sons, Chris and Marty, with whom he made his home; and cousin, Jerry Moore, who was Bruce’s farm helper and buddy, helping care daily for his chickens and dogs and with errand running. He also leaves behind several other cousins.
His family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. The graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Green Hills Cemetery. The Revs. David Moore and Larry Sprouse will officiate.
