20 Feb. 2003 244th Engineer Battalion ordered to active duty.Mission to build forward operating bases throughout 4 ID area. Every soldier wears an armor vest and kevlar helmet,rifle ammunition 200 rounds.March 15 2004 shortly before 4 p.m. along highway 1, about two miles from Samarra a bomb planted in the median exploded next to my truck. Injured me and Spc. Andy Eckert.
