Miss Barbara Laurie Rogers Wed To Robert Preston Cushing
Miss Barbara Laurie Rogers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Demorest Rogers of Danbury, Connecticut became the bride of Robert Preston Cushing, son of Mr. and Mrs. Preston L. Cushing of West Chatham and formerly of Pocasset, last Saturday in the First Congregational Church in Danbury.
The Rev. Paul F. Battenhouse, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Harold E. Craw of Meriden, Connecticut performed the ceremony. A concert of organ music preceded the wedding.
The bride, escorted by her father, wore a gown of Ivory peau de sole with a full skirt with alencon lace and seed pearls. Her skirt fell into a chapel train with lace applique. From a rosette of matching lace fell a veil of silk illusion and she carried a bouquet of roses, orchids and lilies of the valley.
Mrs. Joseph Vanorio of Angola, Indiana was matron of honor. The other attendants were Mrs. Franklin Lewis Jr. of Hartford, Connecticut, a cousin of the bride, and the Misses Penelope King of Wayne, Pennsylvania, Audrey Butvydas of Hillside, New Jersey, Lynnette Ulrichs of Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, and Dorothy Hardy of Barrington, Rhode Island. The bridesmaids were dressed in emerald green velvet with matching hats. They carried crescent bouquets of snow crystal chrysanthemums.
Philip Doucette of Montclalr, New Jersey was best man. Ushers were Charles and Jons Rogers, brothers of the bride, Richard Crowley of Lexington, Steven Goldstein of New York City and Bradford Thompson of Branford, Connecticut.
A small reception for the families and friends was held following the wedding at the Ridgewood Country Club in Danbury. For her wedding trip, Mrs. Cushing wore a suit of hunter green with mink trim and matching fur hat.
The bride will continue studies at Barnard College where she is a junior majoring in Russian. She attended Jackson College for Women at Tufts University, the Northfield School for Girls and Danbury High School.
Mr. Cushing is a graduate of Tufts University and is with the home office of The Guardian Life Insurance Company of New York. He is the grandson of Mrs. Nathan E. Johnson of Brockton and the late Mr. Johnson and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Guy Preston Cushing of Brockton.
