Birthdays celebrated in September that have just come to! our attention are Miss Linda Braun on September 25 and her sister Miss Kathy Braun on September 26.
The Braun sisters are daughters of Technical Sgt. and Mrs. Jesse James of Handy Lane, whom we present in our interview today.
Tech. Sgt. and Mrs. Jesse H. James live at 68 Handy Lane with their three daughters, Kathy, Linda and Teresa Braun.
Sergeant James is from Hedgesville, West Virginia and enlisted in the Army at Fort Meade, Maryland in 1945, switching to the Air Force after his aptitude tests and being sent for basic training to Sheppard Field in Texas.
Next he went to Scott Field, Illinois for radio training and left in September of 1946 for Hokkaido, Japan remaining there two years.
Returning to Fort Lawton, Washington, he re-enlisted and was sent to Langley Field in Virginia and from there to Fassberg, Germany where he flew the Berlin Airlift as a flight engineer in C54's. He explored Europe while there, liked it very much, and would like to go back.
At the outbreak of the Korean war, he was transferred to Ashaya, Japan flying the Korean Air Lift for 24 months, again as a flight engineer.
In November 1953 he returned to the States going to Westover AFB, Chicopee Falls for six months, checking in C54's for MATS.
Next he spent six months opening up Dow AFB in Bangor, Maine and then landed in Alaska at Eielson AFB as a flight engineer in B29's.
After 19 months he returned to Hamilton AFB, California serving as flight engineer for Major General Robert B. Landry. Here he met Mrs. Lorraine Silva Braun of Stockton, California and they were married on October 1, 1955. After a year and a half there, they went to Williams AFB, Arizona where he helped to establish an Air Reserve Flying center.
His latest transfer brought him to Otis in July, and the family moved into their new home at the end of August.
At Otis Sergeant James is flight engineer with the 960th AEW&C squadron of the 551st AEW&CON wing flying in RC121's.
In January he will be going to Chanute AFB in Rantoul, Illinois for six months at the Panel Engineer School. When time allows he indulges in his hobbles of fishing and hunting.
Mrs. James says she doesn't have time for hobbies and has not yet done volunteer work, being new to the Air Force, but she hopes to be able to help out at the Dependents Assistance Center, for she knows how lost she felt when they came house hunting in a strange part of the country. She hopes to help other newcomers find rentals through this volunteer organization of AF wives.
The young ladies have been very active in 4-H work in California, and Kathy, who is a Junior at Bourne High, had a Suffolk ram named "Stormy" which won the grand championship at the California State Fair in Sacramento, first prize in Sonoma County fair at Santa Rosa, Calif., and many other prizes. Linda, who is a Freshman at Bourne, took fourth and eighth places in the show for range sheep of mixed breeds with her two pets, "Pamper and Scamper."
Teresa, who at present has a calico cat, aptly named "Calico," will be eight years old next month, and very much wants to join the Brownie scouts if she can find out when and where they meet.
