Class Of 1929 Gathers Again

Bourne High School days of a quarter century ago were recalled and old tales retold when members of the B. H. S. class of 1929 gathered at the Hammond Manor last Friday evening for their 25th anniversary reunion.

Fifteen of the 23 class members were on hand among the 38 attending. Letters were received and read from Mrs. Katherine Smith Enos at San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. Margaret Wright Stubbs of Alexandria, Va., who is engaged in secretarial work in Washington; and George Mills of Needham Heights, an engineer, who is the only member of the class who is still single.

Class members attending were Herbert Black of Winchester, a reporter for the Boston Globe; Mrs. Doris Bonfiglioni Macoratti of Sagamore, who has taught school; Mrs. Helen Bosari Giovanni of Bridgewater; Allison R. Cook of Buzzards Bay, a cashier of Wareham National Bank; Antonio Delsie of Lexington, Superintendent of the Monk Estate; Mrs. Gertrude Haskell Anderson of Bournedale; Mrs. Winifred Jordan Phinney of Pocasset, employed in a Wareham department store; Dexter Phinney of Pocasset, working at Otis; Mrs. Dorothy Knight Gibbs of Pocasset; Roger B. Moody of Cambridge, in the lumber business; also Wallace Judson Perry of Monument Beach, employed at R. Bigelow and Sons; Mrs. Dorothy Perry Kelley, Monument Beach; Mrs. Marion Price Toby, Monument Beach; and Gustavo Tassinari of Falmouth, an automobile dealer.

There was roll call before dinner and between courses the class prophesy was read. With Mr. Cook as master of ceremonies, each member was introduced with his wife or husband, told about his family highlights of the past 25 years, and at least one memory of high school years.

There were three grandmothers in the group: Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Gibbs and Mrs. Elaine Gibbs Brightman, who was unable to be present. Mrs. Melissa Holt Midkiff brought a large anniversary cake. Plans for the reunion and the decorations were made by Mrs. Herbert Kelley and Mrs. Charles Tobey.

Among the guests were James M. Peebles, Superintendent of Schools; Kempton J. Coady, who was high school principal and Mrs. Coady; Edgar Demers of Worcester, who was physical education instructor and coached the Cape Championship 1929 basketball team with Mrs. Demers; Sarah Moody of Monument Beach, Latin teacher; and Mr. and Mrs. James L. Tyson of Buzzards Bay. Mrs. Tyson started her teaching career in Bourne with the class of 1929.
