First Candidate for Cranberry Highway Title

First entrant in the annual Miss Cranberry Highway contest is Miss Diane Kern, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Kern Jr. of Blueberry Road, Buzzards Bay.

Diane, a pert brunette, is a sophomore at Bourne High School in the commercial course.

A West Roxbury family, the Kerns had resided for six years in Redding, PA before moving to Buzzards Bay In September.

While in Redding Diane started seriously studying roller skating and has won about 50 trophies for her skill in dancing on skates. She is continuing her skating lessons in Norwood while her family spends weekends with her paternal grandparents in West Roxbury.

Following her graduation from high school Diane hopes to work as a secretary and continue her studies to become a professional skater, after which she would like to teach skating herself.

She has an older sister, Elaine, who is working In Boston and continuing her skating lessons, and a brother In the second grade who also skates. Mr. Kern is Foreman at the H. L. Bouton Company in Buzzards Bay.
