Bertram Wright Escapes Death on Train Track
Patrolman Bertram S. Wright, Bourne's Shellfish Officer, received contusions on his left arm and right eye and facial abrasions Tuesday afternoon when a northbound New Haven freight train demolished the car he was sitting in at the intersection leading to Phinney's Landing.
The train reportedly struck the front bumper of Mr. Wright's car and spun the car around into the path of the moving train which struck the automobile in the rear. Mr. Wright, on a routine patrol of the beach, was quoted as saying he didn't see the train until it was nearly up to him. He braked his car but was too close to the tracks to avoid being hit. He said he stopped at the crossing before proceeding ahead. He was treated by Dr. Abram Krahower and released.
