Lifeguards Fired at Bourne After Fire on Beach
Lifeguards Jack Sweeney of Buzzards Bay and Bill McLaughlin of Gray Gables were dismissed as lifeguards by the town of Bourne after police charged them with a part in the burning of a lifeguard stand at Buzzards Bay bathing beach Saturday night.
Three other young men are charged by police with having had a hand in the business; Eugene Sweeney Jr. of Buzzards Bay, John Pilkington of Jefferson Shores and George Duane of Gray Gables.
The boys were picked up Sunday morning and arraigned in District court Monday. Their trial will be August 7.
