Bourne Track Star to Enter Academy
Accepted for the September Class at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy is Charles E. L. Kimball Jr., son of Mrs. Charles E. L. Kimball and the late Mr. Kimball of Clay Pond Road in Monument Beach.
Charles is a June graduate of Bourne High School.
Last year while attending Boys State he took third place in the high jump with 5'9" and last year at the Cape Cod Relays Carnival he accumulated the highest individual score in the event.
This year he came in a close second highest although he out jumped his last year's mark.
At the Carnival this year at Barnstable High school he broke the Cape Cod record for broad jump with 19'6" and also the high jump record with 5 foot and 9 and 3/4 inches. He set the record for both the year before.
At that event in the Cape Cod Relay Team race of 440 yards, running in a team of four with Kevin Fielding, Roy Weston and Robert O'Brien, the boys set a new record of 49 seconds, cutting 1 and 1/2 seconds from the previous record.
At the White Stadium in Boston the following day, May 25th, in the Massachusetts Class D Schoolboy events he tied for third place In the high jump.
During the last assembly exercises this June at Bourne High he was awarded a medal for the Class D high jump in Boston.
