BHS Guidance Director Explains His Work
Of Aptitude And IQ Tests
John H. Gray, guidance director at Bourne High School, spoke of his work in that field to members of the Bourne School Committee at a special meeting last week at the James F. Peebles school.
He explained the various tests given to all students at the high school for the past three years including the Iowa tests for English, vocabulary and social studies which is done under pupil faculty preparation.
Results of this test are used throughout the year in work of the teachers with the pupils and consultations with parents. This will show where the student has strength and weaknesses. It is considered very important for new youngsters entering high school, as it tells their potential and where it may be.
Also given to students of grades 9-12 is the Otis IQ test which is a pencil and paper test from which the faculty can tell what the child can do and where he may best be placed.
The guidance director interprets the results of these tests and then will use results in guiding and counseling the pupil.
