Miss DeForest, Richard Connon Wed in Sandwich
In a beautiful Christmas candlelight wedding Miss June Louise DeForest, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry R. DeForest of Gaffield Avenue, Monument Beach, became the bride of Richard Allen Connon.
The double ring service on Saturday evening, Dec. 17, at St. John's Episcopal Church at Sandwich was performed by Rev. John T. DeForest an uncle of the bride who is pastor of St. David's Episcopal Church at San Antonio, Texas, assisted by the Rev. John Thomas, Rector of St. John's.
A wreath of red carnations with white Chrysanthemums and evergreens and poinsettia plants decorated the altar and chancel. The aisles were lined with tall wrought iron candelabra with white candles.
Escorted by her father, the bride wore a gown of Ivory Peau de Sole designed with an overlay of lace re-embroidered with seed pearls and sequins from the empire waistline and long tapered sleeves. The front panel of her intermission length skirt was of sheath style while the back featured a bustle emphasized toy a large bow of the same material from which the skirt swept into a full cathedral train. Her crown of seed pearls and sequins held a fingertip veil of silk illusion and she also wore a pearl necklace, the wedding gift of the bridegroom. She carried a striking Christmas bouquet of red and white Anthurium with English holly and mistletoe.
Miss Velura F. Fifield of Chestnut Hill was her cousin's only attendant, and wore a cocktail length gown of deep green silk faille in princess style with matching pumps and Dior designed hat. She carried a wreath of English holly and red carnations.
Best man for the son of Mr. and Mrs. Neil F. Connon of Bucklin, Mo., was Lieut. Roy Edwin Baugher also of Bucklin.
About 50 guests attended the reception following the service, held at the summer home of the bride's parents at Sagamore Beach. The entire home was beautifully decorated for Christmas with a large tree at the French doors of the living room. Mrs. DeForest, mother of the bride, received guests wearing a champagne brocade dress with matching fitted waist length jacket and a mauve flowered fitted hat, mink stole and orchid corsage.
Mr. Connon, serving as staff sergeant at Otis Air Force Base, was graduated from Bucklin High school and from Victoria Junior College in Victoria, Texas.
The new Mrs. Connon is a 1960 graduate of Bourne High School and attended Chandler School for Women in Boston., They are making their home at Mashnee Village.
The couple were honored at a pre-nuptial dinner at the Algonquin Club of Boston at which Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Fifield of Chestnut Hill were hosts.
