Perhaps a Candidate

Name of Philip T. Sanford, Bourne selectman, is being widely mentioned as a potential Republican candidate for the First Barnstable seat in the General Court.

"I've given it quite a bit of thought," Mr. Sanford said yesterday. "I wouldn't be surprised if I did. But I certainly won't decide until I've talked to the Republican leaders and the selectmen of al! the towns. It will be a while yet."

Mr. Sanford has been a Bourne Selectman since 1948 when he spearheaded a postwar youth movement in his first try for public office. He was then manager of the Buzzards Bay Theatre, after World War II service with the Fifth Air Force in the Pacific as a radio operator. He is 41.

He Is a former member of the Bourne Town Republican Committee, and was an active worker during the first Eisenhower campaign, then dropped political affiliation for a while but is again an enrolled Republican.
