College Students Answer Questions of College Bound

National Honor society and Guidance Department of Bourne High School sponsored an interesting "home coming" program at the school last Monday when vacationing college students, all Bourne High School alumni met and answered the questions of college bound seniors.

To start things off there was a skit written and .presented by senior members of the Honor Society, a take off on the TV program This Is Your Life.

The students were Jacqueline Gaddy, Janice Willey. Sharjey Halopoff, Judith Kelley, George Tomlinson, Steven Lawless, Thomas Gallerani and Neil Minihan.

The skit was a projection into the future, a "look back" on the career of Miss Halopoff after her graduation from high school.

The college students then sat in an informal panel and took up the questions asked by college-bound high school students. The variety was considerable.

Is college as hard as our teachers make it out to be? What about fraternities? Small college versus large college? Availability of jobs to help pay a student's way? Availability of scholarships?

College students who participated:

Miss Faith Jackson, Cornell; Fred Mitchell, Miss Nancy Cook and Miss Albia Hiltwein, University of Massachusetts; Warren Freeman, Trinity; Victor Kim. Norwich; George Low, Rhode Island School of Design; Donald Lince and Phillip Doucette, Worcester Polytechnic; Robert Cushing, Tufts; Crystal Campbell, Framingham Teachers; Miss Joan Ojala, Pembroke; Peter Mackesy, BU Junior College; Robert Merchant, Acadia University; Miss Donna Spectre, Leslie College; Ronald Bassett and Edward Shay, Massachusetts Maritime Academy; Miss Cynthia Coppi, University of Connecticut.

About 50 persons were there altogether. Teachers participating were Guidance Director John Gray, Principal Walter Stahura and Mrs. Eleanor Larson, Faculty Advisor for the National Honor Society. The high school girls afterwards served coffee, chocolate and homemade cookies from a buffet table with silver service and a centerpiece.
