B.H.S. Seniors Enter Final Week; More College Bound

More Bourne High school seniors have decided where they will continue their studies, aside from those whose college acceptances have been listed previously.

The Class of 1961 has its last assembly Friday, Baccalaureate is Sunday afternoon, class night next Tuesday and graduation Thursday evening, June 15.

William Towne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward S. Towne of Pine Road, Pocasset, has been accepted at Bridgewater State College. At Bourne High school his activities have included class play, yearbook staff and a four year membership in both band and special chorus.

Miss Suzanne White, daughter of Col. and Mrs. Ernest J. White of Otis, has been accepted at Miami University at Oxford, Ohio where she will major in English. During Suzanne's two and a half years here she has worked on the yearbook staff, was in the cast of the senior play and has been a member of the Code Club. She teaches Sunday School at her church on the base. The Whites were stationed for three years at Oxford where Colonel White had ROTC duty. They enjoyed it so much Suzanne applied there for college. Between Oxford and Otis they spent two years at Stewart AFB in York.

William Hardin, son of Master Sgt. and Mrs. Trover D. Hardin Jr. of Handy Road, Pocasset has been accepted at the New Bedford Institute of Technology where he will major in mechanical engineering. He played on the football team in high school at Bangor, Maine where they were stationed at Dow AFB, and played on the Bourne team last fall. He has worked after school at the M&M Chevron station at the Otis rotary after school and will work there this summer. The family had one year in Florida between Dow and Otis assignments.

Mrs. Marcia Darden, a senior at Bourne High School, has received her acceptance at the Cape Cod Community College in Hyannis where she plans to take a two-year secretarial program. Marcia Is Bourne's first married student. She was married in December of 1959 in Charlestown, W. Va., which is her home city, to Charles Darden of Beaumont, Texas. He had completed his junior year at the Stephen F. Austin State College at Nacogdoches, Texas, majoring in journalism when he entered the Air Force for his four year service.

When he was in North Carolina she transferred to a high school there to complete her junior year. That school did not offer Spanish and since she had a background of several years of Latin and French and planned further study in languages the school allowed her to take a course at the Mount Olive Junior college. When she entered Bourne High School in September following her husband's transfer to Otis where he is an Information Specialist, she had already completed other college work through correspondence and extension study. This winter she has taken a course in philosophy in the adult education courses at Falmouth through the University of Massachusetts extension courses. She is graduating fifth in her class here and, also during the winter, worked as feature editor of the school yearbook, and was a member of the chorus.

Thomas Conlon, son of Senior Master Sergeant and Mrs. Francis X. Conlon of Otis Air Force base, has received his acceptance at Northeastern University where he plans to major in civil engineering. The ConIons were transferred here from Loring AFB at Limestone, ME three years ago. Tom's favorite sports are bowling and skin diving.

Miss Patricia L. Cook of Barlows Landing Road, Pocasset has been accepted in the one year executive secretarial program at the Cambridge School of Business, Boston. Under the Cambridge school's work-study program, Miss Cook will attend class half the day and receive on-the-job training in an office as a part-time secretary the other half. She will begin her training in the Fall class. Miss Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley E. Cook at Bourne High school is active in the high school chorus, Code Club, yearbook staff and advertising staff
