Class of 1961

Falmouth Enterprise, Friday, August 11, 1961, Page 15

They Learn Driving at 6:00 A.M.

Twenty Bourne High graduates of last June are working, literally, morning and night, in an accelerated driver education program.

Their driver training car is on the roads from 6 to 8 A.M. Every weekday evening from 7 to 9 they are attending classroom driving instruction. After three weeks of this they will be qualified to take their driver's examination.

George Grinder of Sagamore Beach and William E. Delaney of Buzzards Bay are instructors for the accelerated course. Clayton E. Campbell, assistant school superintendent, is coordinator for the program

Reason for the unusual practice and class hours is that all the 1961 graduates are engaged in summer jobs. Due to double sessions at Bourne High there has been no school sponsored driver training for the past three years.

Last month the Bourne school committee approved resumption of driver training, both the summer course for graduates and for the regular term. Several interested parents attended the school board meeting to press the point.

Driving pupils pictured include Alan Douglas, Theodore Lindberg, William Towne, Leo Archambeault, Larry Weston, Theodore Drew, Leo Ferrari, Linda Peaslee, Beth Maxa, Ed Moxon, Pam Mohre, Linda Gibbs, Libby Rogers, Claire Painty, Kenny Nelson and Nancy Koskela. Not in the picture are Paul Gibbs, Phil Jacobs, Ronny Jones and Lisa Koskela.
