BHS Alumni Gathering Was A Pleasant Affair

Bourne High School Alumni Association meeting was attended by nearly 200 Saturday evening in the high school. Guests mingled over a dinner of barbecued chicken with salads, Ice cream and brownies.

Members of the class of 1927 celebrating their 35th anniversary, were seated at the head table which was centered with gladioli and delphinium in class colors of blue and silver.

Present were Lillian Ware Weeks of Whitefield, ME., and Beverly Edna Holmes Garland of Westchester, PA., Marjorie Wagner Koskela, Marjorie Long Cole, Myrtle Lumbert Pippin, Beatrice Gibbs Williams and Grace Marvel Stockley.

Elizabeth Snow Small of the class of 1928 and Esther Helkel and Marlon Jackson Kimball and Mr. and Mrs. Addison Pratt of North Scituate of the class of 1926 also Joined the group. Invited guests of the 1927 class were Mr. and Mrs. Kempton J. Coady, Mr. and Mrs. Doxie Salter and Mrs. Robert Crump, who was chaperone of the class on their Washington trip. Greetings were read from Miss Bessie B. Bailey, now teaching English in Arlington, and the former Miss Miriam Bond, now Mrs. William Bantz of Old Lyme, CT, who taught history.

The group met prior to the dinner in the new Kempton J. Coady library in the school where old pictures, programs and the class prophecy were enjoyed, It was prophesied that Beatrice Gibbs Williams would be a teacher and she is; that Helen Bourne Odom would be on a platform lecturing, and Mrs. Odom does a great deal of speaking

Members of the class of 1942 who gathered to make initial plans for a large reunion on their 25th year were Claire Healy Montague of East Northfield, Christine Milliken Carr of Hyannis, Charles F. Tucy Jr. of Buzzards Bay, Marjory Jenkins Babbitt of Hyannis, Waldo Lumbert of Monument Beach and Peggy Dodd Smith of Cotuit.

President Donald H. Long of Clark Road, Sagamore, greeted the alumni and passed on to all the hearty recommendation of the class of 1927 to plan class gatherings in conjunction with the alumni meeting. Officers elected for the ensuing year are Mr. Long, president; Charles F. Tucy Jr., vice-president; Beatrice Gibbs Williams, treasurer; Mrs. Herbert Long (Thelma Phinney), secretary; Mrs. Sumner Braley ( Vesta Avery), membership; Mrs. L. E. DeGagne (Jane Perry) publicity, and Mrs. Aarne Koskela (Margaret Wagner), program.

Highlight of the evening was the Sing-a-long conducted by Alberta Hunt Harding who has the happy combination of a vivacious personality and a magnificent voice. Fred Hebditch, class of '39, of Hyannis and Robert Harris, class of '38, of Thompsonvllle, CT accompanied on their guitars and were joined about half way through the program by the Mel Von Trio, who played for dancing for the remainder of the evening. Miss Pam Moore. class or '61, made up song sheets In order that all might join the singing, and they did, with gusto.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Perry or Pocasset, who are present at all alumni meetings, led off the dancing to complete the program.
