69 Seniors Get Diplomas At B.H.S. Commencement

George W. Dainty auditorium was filled last night for the graduation of the Bourne High school Class of 1959.

Parents and friends watched as 67 graduates received their diplomas from Wilfred H. Graves, superintendent of schools, and two others were presented to parents of absent seniors.

Principal Walter J. Stahura presented the awards and scholarships after the Shawme orchestra and special chorus had performed. He began with presentation of three college awards, from Harvard to Cornelius Minihan, from Northeastern to Thomas Gallerani and from Boston university to George Tomlinson.

The Parent-Teacher association $500 scholarship was awarded to George Tomlinson. Old Colony Union Women's club $300 scholarship and Bourne Junior Women's Club scholarship of $100 went to Sally Williams. Irving Gibbs Memorial scholarship of $500 from the Class of '34 went to Thomas Gallerani.

Norman Bayes received a $150 award from the Wareham Lodge of Elks. Roger Kennerly Memorial awards in science and math, $25 each, went to Judith Kelley and Thomas Galerani.

Veterans of Foreign Wars awards for outstanding boy and girl. $10 each, were awarded to Judith Kelley and Neil Minihan. Stephen Lawless received the $420 Ellis Bird Memorial award. D.A.R. Good Citizens award went to Judith Kelley, and Paul G. Bousfield's name will be Inscribed on the Stephen P. Hayes plaque at the school for most improvement in scholarship and citizenship. Brenda Clouette received the Pocasset Community association Carol Swift Memorial award, Neil Minihan the Cape Cod Standard Times award and Philip Curry the $50 Arthur Marcoux award for the boy who has excelled in sports and studies. Jeannette Tucker was the VFW Walter Strom Memorial nursing scholarship of $200, and also the Mothers club Florence Stowell award of $50. Italian Women's club $25 prize for commercial subjects went to Sally Cook, its $25 prize for speech and dramatics to George Tomlinson.

National Honor society members in the class are Ralph Edgar Best, Jacqueline Marcelle Gaddy, Thomas Leo Gallerani, Sharley Ann Halopoff, Judith Ann Kelley, Cornelius John Minihan, George Sykes Tomlinson. Diploma and awards for Paul Bousfield were received by his mother, Mrs. Grace L. Bousfield. Paul has enlisted in the Marines. Calvin Tucker of Burtonwood received the diploma for his daughter Jeannette, who is spending her commencement week in Tobey hospital, recovering from pneumonia. She plans to enter nurse's training at Sturdy Memorial hospital in the fall.
