When my 2 ‘girlfriends’ and I decided to add an Agriculture class together (A. Lincoln High, 1970), Mr. Haycock welcomed us.
We were surprised that there were no other GIRLS in the class…All went well, until we heard that some mammal was going to be killed in class,
It was a shock, and the only way we could think of at the time, was to ‘cut’ the class (age 16)…
We ended up driving to a park in Santa Clara, until we could return to our next high school class.
Unfortunately, that park happened to be one that Santa Clara kids hung out in, cutting school, and the Santa Clara police often visited it … So, the police found us, and were happy to escort us to our school office , and ‘to The Dean of Girls’.

Mr. Haycock was very surprised, and calmly said that he understood, & wished we had just TOLD
him our feelings, and we could’ve hung out at Lincoln, with his support! What a sweetheart.
