He was a very different teacher. I remember jumping out my seat in class when he banged the drum stick, the kind you play drums with not the eating kind, on his desk to get our attention. He directed the school drama class and the plays. He could make you smile and cry in an instant. One year for the school talent show he dressed as an old gold miner and recited the poem "The Shooting of Dan McGrew" written by Robert W. Service. He was in character and make up and thrilled us all right front he first like of the poem. "A bunch of the boys were whooping it up in the Malamute saloon;". I am 80 now and will never forget Mr. Basye. Rest well sir .
